Christmas Presents for Teacher!

SuzieP29 · 09/11/2011 12:48

I am already beginning to think about what to get my kids teachers for Xmas! The youngest has been talking about it - with fanciful ideas of jackets from Debenhams and a fish tank being a couple of her bright ideas- but I have two so clearly can't quite afford that!

Anyone got any good suggestions? I'd like something other than the usual box of Roses or scented drawer liners! (Under £10 too!)

a huuuuge bottle of wine, pleeeeeeeease???

only kidding. i never expect anything from my pupils, times are tight and would hate to think any mum is stressing out over it. us mums have a long enough gift list without worrying about what to get the teachers.

a nice little christmas card if anything.

We bake something, and usually take it in early in the last week of term. When they're younger mine have had classroom assistants too, so a cake can be shared between them (and if they don't want it, can always be put in the staff room). It has always been well received Smile
My girls have also always received thank you notes from each teacher we have done it for, which is also nice

The best presents I have received in the past are the cards with a lovely message written inside. Just a simple "thank you for helping me this school year...you are a great teacher" or similar are the presents that will be cherished by most teachers. They mean much more than a bottle of wine or chocolate.

ah i now get your post serin!! Blush Yes bargain- may pinch that idea!!!!!

WinterIsComing · 11/11/2011 16:58

God I got some lovely presents when I was a teacher and now that I'm a parent I always make an effort.

Wine was always appreciated but I had some great stuff over the years. When I still lived at home I received a tiny Christmas tree which is now eight foot tall in my parents' garden Grin and one I'll always remember was a beautiful and unusual blue glass bottle filled with olive oil and herbs which was very ornamental and also practical.

Sometimes I did re-gift things Blush but I appreciated being able to do that too. (Young. Single. Nineties. Endowment mortgage. Nightmare with interest rates shooting up and living on a shoestring)

I usually buy Amazon or M&S vouchers but I wish I could be a bit more creative so thanks for this thread Smile

Pigley - I want some of your gingerbread men, waaaaaaah, do you sell them? Smile

pigleychez · 11/11/2011 17:51

Maxybrown- My first time of making them so haven't before but could if you were interested? :)

Taffeta · 11/11/2011 17:59

My DC's teachers are getting a bottle of Prosecco each ( was on special offer ) and the TA's a box of chocolate biscuits ( ditto )

Taffeta · 11/11/2011 18:01

Oh and I give my special hm cranberry and macadamia biscuits to DS's old Reception teacher because

  • I know she loves them
  • I love her for what she did for DS 3 years ago
virgiltracey · 11/11/2011 18:37

Does anyone have any cheap ideas for male teachers. Between the two DSs they have three teachers and two TAs and so I'm trying to keep it to about £6-£8. I'm making the vanilla brown sugar body scrub for the female teachers and the TAs but am completely lacking in inspiration for a male primary teacher!

Taffeta · 11/11/2011 18:39

£6-8 in total for 5 people?

virgiltracey · 11/11/2011 18:41

no £6-£8 for the male teacher. Can go a bit higher given that the body scrub is cheap to make but don't want it to look disproportionately expensive next to the homemade scrub!

Taffeta · 11/11/2011 18:42

Good bottle of red. Grin

virgiltracey · 11/11/2011 18:46

yes that should be a safe bet! Grin

maxybrown · 11/11/2011 19:39

My DH sometimes gets Guinness bought for him (he is secondary teacher though so rarely gets much compared to primary, but he is popular so gets lots of thank you cards Grin)

Wow! I didn't expect all of these replies! So so helpful, thanks MumsNetters :) I actually found something I LOVE, will post a picture of it up here if I can work out how to do it.

I recently bought something for my Brother from The Chocolate Library, a company I fist noticed on Not On The High Street. I went back for a browse and found a teacher chocolate bar that I can personalise from the kids! Love this idea. And they come in at about £7 with postage!

I chose milk chocolate for both teachers. Waiting on it arriving today at some point!

Liking the idea of wine actually as an extra for the little one's teacher as she's quite young and would probably appreciate it!

ps I didn't buy the bar from Not on the Hight Street, I bought it straight from the chocolate library website. They have loads more stuff, have to stop myself buying!
