Good ds or wii game for a 10 year old girl?

I usually put a game for the ds or wii in my dd's stocking but I haven't got a clue which one to put in.

She has some of the Imagine series eg horses, teacher, weddings and plays them happily but is not hooked.

She also has the brain training style games covered.

She loves animals, is fairly bright but doesn't persist at things that are difficult at first.

Anyone any ideas or recommendations?

just dance 3 for the wii? does she like Moshi Monsters? sure I saw a new DS game?

Carrotsandcelery · 09/11/2011 10:34

Hi peanut thank you. I was looking at the moshi game for ds but hadn't thought of dd. That might be a hit. She loves the dance 1 and dance 2 so dance 3 might be fun too. Great ideas.

Any good platform games out there for girls? They all seem quite boy orientated to me.

Super Mario brothers for ds? Harry potter games on ds? Professor Layton has a new game out, not sure if that would be too difficult?

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 09/11/2011 11:00

My DD is nine and is getting a DS and some games for her main present this year. I got her a couple of the eco games - they're called Planet Rescue and there seems to be quite a few. I got one with dolphins, and I think one called island rescue or something like that. I looked at the Zhu Zhu Pets one too, but she had the pet and hardly bothered with it so I've left that one for now. There's a series called HarvestMoon that look nice, I am still debating over getting one of those, but it will have to wait until I see how the budget goes - am hopelessly overspent already Confused

Super Mario and super mario carts on both.
Super Mario galaxy(1 and 2) are great, but harder. My 10 year old DD says 13 year old DD is much better at them. They are really colourful and fun to watch.
Avoid animal crossing, it's so dull it's referred to as "the watching paint dry game" here.
Wii resort etc are fun.

startail · 09/11/2011 11:21

Oh scribble nauts on the DS is fun even if you never play it properly, which I don't.

Sparklingbrook · 09/11/2011 11:23

Thank you startail. Someone else who doesn't 'get' Animal Crossing!! Getting your hair done and fishing?! What? Grin

Quenelle · 09/11/2011 11:27

Harvest Moon is very sweet. It has a lot of fans your DD's age and older.

Carrotsandcelery · 09/11/2011 11:29

Has anyone tried any of the horse riding games? I have been looking at them but am fully aware of the potential for these things to be as dull as ditch water or far too hard.

We have animal crossing and no one plays it. I should really put it on ebay. Grin

Don't anybody be buying a 'fishing' game either. It really is as yawnsome as real fishing.

Carrotsandcelery · 09/11/2011 11:33

I can't even begin to imagine how dull a fishing game might be. It would be cheaper to just sit on the sofa and eat chocolate Hmm

Yes but if your DS (9) had specifically asked for said dull fishing game (Reel Fishing) and also the fishing rod reely in thing that attaches to the Wii remote to renact the fishing experience-you think there may be something more to it. Nope!

cloudpuff · 09/11/2011 12:03

Animal crossing is great, my dd(6) has it on the ds and wii. When she first got it I used to play on it while she was at school. There is no wrong way to play it and its never ending. I sound like a right geek but it is a great game.

Scribblenauts is also another good one.

Nintendogs might be good for an animal lover. Or what about those hidden object games like dream day wedding or where's wally.

I would not reccomend that udraw, dd loves drawing and got bored with game after a day. I should put it on ebay really. Art academy and lets draw are much better.

The Babysitting Mama game is good, you get this little doll that you have to rock and look after,

Seriously I don't spend all my time playing on dds game consoles.

Carrotsandcelery · 09/11/2011 12:11

Sparklingbrook Shock Grin Does ds like it?

cloudpuff I have had phases of spending a lot of time on Mario ds. Blush I had nearly finished it when ds accidentally wiped the file. Angry I can remember coming home from school to find my Mum deep in a game of Hunchback on the commodore 64 or on my dbro's Astrowars game so it is clearly in the genes Grin

I have had to stop Mario though as I was getting too annoyed with the fiery castle Blush Blush

No carrots. He unwrapped it on his birthday, got really excited and attached reely thing. It was virtually impossible to catch a fish (realistic). Never came out of the cupboard again.

He loves Rayman's Raving Rabbids now. It has to be seen to be believed. I really don't understand but it is v funny.

Sparklingbrook · 09/11/2011 12:19

By the way I wouldn't necessarily recommend Raving Rabbids to anyone. One of the games involves waving the controller about then making them burp. It's possibly a DS aged 9 thing. I don't have girls so we have to have games like that and Fifa 12. Sad

Carrotsandcelery · 09/11/2011 12:26

Believe me, dd would love any burping action. I think it is an age thing rather than a gender one Grin

Check the reviews on Amazon just in case though!I didn't mean to be sexist but as a Mum to 2 boys I always imagine if I had had girls they would want to play nice girlie games. Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 09/11/2011 12:52

Grin I didn't take it as sexism. A few of my friends have all boys and are shocked when they realise dd and her friends are quite rough and ready sometimes (although nice girls really). I think they fantasise that if they had girls it would all be peaceful and savoury. Sadly it is not the case in this house anyway. Grin

My dd has Art Academy and another drawing game for the ds that I can't remember the name of! She also loves Bratz on the PS2 (even though it's ancient!).

Quenelle · 09/11/2011 17:14

Does she like Hello Kitty? There are a couple of very popular HK DS games. They might be a bit too pink and sugary for her if she's a rough and ready type though.
