help! stuck with dh's pressies...

Dh's birthday is 2 days before xmas.

So far I have bought him
Mr grumpy socks
Dvd
Noel gallagher cd
Annual

I need cheap presents from kids for bday + xmas. Ideas?

Also, I have bought him tickets for stone roses tour which cost a bloody ridiculous extortionate amount a lot. Therefore I can't afford to buy much else but as the tickets are for his xmas I don't want to not get anything to open on his birthday - what can I buy that's cheap but bulkyish - he needs clothes.

The tickets are from my parents and me so he won't be getting from them but mum is just going to say that she has ordered something but it hasn't arrivied.

Help?

Men are really hard to buy for.

I tend to get DH tickets for something (which doesn't help), or something to do, this year his main present is a days fishing masterclass with a world champion fisherman, which will be from me and DD.

The rest tends to be bits and bobs to open, this year he'll probably get something like; slippers, socks, a book, toilettries and an itunes voucher.

Maybe try TK Maxx for more unusual gifts. DP got a wine collar, a small business card holder to use as a wallet, a funky VW camper mug, loads of Jelly Belly beans and a lovely wool scarf as stocking fillers last year, all of which I got from there and each cost less than a tenner.

Good shout on txmaxx - will try there.

For his birthday I now have:
Jumper
2 t shirts
Dvd
Mr grumpy socks and mug from kids

For xmas:
Tickets
Noel g cd
Annual

So I will just buy maybe a stone roses book / cd to hide tickets in + a wee pressie from kids and then fill stocking with sweets and toiletries.

I know hell be delighted with tickets so that's good :)

How old are they? Take them to a pottery cafe and get them to decorate a mug. If you don't have one nearby then a mug with a photo collage of them perhaps?

leftmydignityatthedoor · 06/11/2011 21:21

They are 4 and 1. We have loads of mugs and got him mr men mug already...also our pottery place is a rip off expensive.

My dh is happy with sweets/chocolates from the children. Perhaps from Hotel Chocolat if you want to get something a bit special (if he likes that sort of stuff). Or Thorntons if on more of a budget.

onepieceofcremeegg · 06/11/2011 21:25

Or if he likes tea/coffee get him some really nice tea or ground coffee to go in the mug they have got him? Or luxury hot chocolate?

Uglymush · 06/11/2011 21:27

What's his job? Does he wear ties?- do they do a MR grumpy one to match the socks? Need a desk calendar?

leftmydignityatthedoor · 06/11/2011 21:33

Desk calendar is good idea - maybe one with kids photos on? Will look into it.

Will get him sweets yep. He is more a celebrations than hotel chocolat kinda guy!

Boots have a range of gifts that you can put photos in; things like desk calendars, small wall calendars, baubles and other items. :)

leftmydignityatthedoor · 06/11/2011 21:38

Oooh baubles?

TheHouseofMirth · 06/11/2011 21:47

Or a photo snow globe? Or one of these?

Carpediem2007 · 06/11/2011 22:18

Large mug
thermos mug to take his tea in the car in the morning
electric toothbrush
iPad cover
shaver (ouch)
bag to carry stuff to work
fancy thin leather wallet
Cufff links
cheap watch for sport
cork screw (the one with a big handle that pulls cork up: DS (3) got this for us at the pre school fair last year, brilliant, he knows us well!)
army knife/credit card size one

Have a look at websites like play.com and iwantoneofthose.com - play is running mega Monday sales at the moment, I got a do k for my iPhone last week that was £5 instead of £40. They also had loads of other stuff with bigtime reductions just for the day.

I think lots of places are doing promos like this; sign up for their emails to get notice of their daily deals and flash sales.

The thing I got for dh that he loved the most last year (actually for fathers day) was a little retro robot desk clock from paperchase. He'd previously needed a birthday present for a friend, didn't want anything heavy to carry and the guy preferred beer to champagne so he didn't want to turn up with a six pack. We happened to be out for lunch and he needed a card too so I dragged him into paperchase as it was next to lunch place and we were short on time.

He saw the little robot clock and fell in love with it thought his friend might like it and if not he would have it. Before going he nearly kept it for himself but I persuaded him to take it thinking fathers day was fast approaching and it would be a good gift - turns out the friend loved it as he collected robot things and now dh has his own too which he loves. It was only about a tenner, maybe £12. And there are often vouchers for money off paperchase in magazines and on the Internet.

Also keep an eye on pound shops for a couple of silly bits and bobs. I've sometimes given dh things like a football or frisbee from the kids so that they can all go out and play together :)

zipzap · 06/11/2011 22:37

Oh and check out 7dayshop as well. They have mad things hidden amongst all the sensible techy stuff like little laser pointers or tide charts or bits to add to your penknife for £2-3 each. A sharpening stone for your penknife plus a glasses screwdriver that screws into the corkscrew bit have both been really useful here.

leftmydignityatthedoor · 06/11/2011 22:51

Thanks all, great ideas.

My DH has decided he wants a Kindle .(Ah bless. It will make things alot easier because I won't have to trawl through Maplins and the like for computer bits).

So far Tesco looks like the best bet. Cheaper than Amazon and Tesco Points too.

leftmydignityatthedoor · 08/11/2011 15:41

Can't afford 30 quid or thatd be a great idea.
