desperately need help for stocking fillers for 15 year DS1who has enough deodrants/smellies from last year to last til he leaves home! Last year he was obviously a bit put out as the littlies had a great pile and he didn't

We have 3 little ones and buy their presents from carboots, spend about £20 a head on stockings and get loads. DS1 is lovely and does get that his stuff is more expensive but we can't think of anything other than books and he wants a kindle for his main present so that's book out!.... CDs would take up all the money so ANY ideas gratefully recived!

What about Vouchers? Make up and print some vouchers he can use I.e. extra hour later to go to bed, extra hour on games console, get out of doing some chores, etc

Themumsnot · 06/11/2011 12:56

Hmm - mine are girls, but last year as well as the girl stuff they also had things like a little LED torch, a book on how to tie knots, sweets, knickers and socks and stationery (they like stuff like pens, funny-shaped paperclips and brightly-coloured post it notes). New mobile phone cover, magazine of choice etc. I pick things up here and there over the course of a few months and rarely spend more than £1 on any one item. The torches were BOGOF from Mountain Warehouse for instance. Also annoying little puzzles from Hawkin's Bazaar often go down well with teens.

DD and DS (14 and 18) also get:
Bags of nuts
Jelly beans (DD) Beef jerky (yuk but he likes it DS)
Socks- Topman sale has tiger and crocodile ones £3 each.
Sharpies
Playing cards
Art magazine and music magazine

barbarianoftheuniverse · 06/11/2011 12:58

Mugs!

JjandtheBeanplusPud · 06/11/2011 13:19

Poundland has a fair few kindle accessories, that might be worth a look, we've brought a fair few wii accessories in there and there actually suprisingly good.

Ours also has re-cond cds in atm, quite a few big names like kaiser cheifs keane etc, dp has some in the car.
Daft socks, also £land.

What about a pack of playing cards? I've been teaching my cousin who's 13 a few card games and his older friends have got right into it.

Ear phones
Book light
Pens
Favorite food (last year DD had 2 pot noodles wrapped up)
Poster
Magazine
Key ring
Men's leather bracelets (primark)

Themumsnot · 06/11/2011 14:16

YY to cards. I have an hour-long train journey to work and, to my complete astonishment, all the 6th form kids on the train spend the journey playing cards together.

rainbowinthesky · 06/11/2011 14:18

I also recommend going to the pound shop. Lots of stuff for this age at the moment.

Aerobreaking · 06/11/2011 14:46

Third yes to cards. Themumsnot has reminded me of many happy hours spent playing cards on the train when I was going to school!

Trying to think what my brother used to get in his stocking...
Toiletry bag for overnight parties/drunkennights sleepovers
Cheap DVDs (plenty on play, amazon etc)
Paper block, notebook etc, stuff he would need for school anyway (dull, but you could get slighty nicer versions than normal iykwim)
yy to nice food (biccies from m&s, percy pigs etc)
Boyish photo frame with pictures of friends
If he's anything like most 15 year old boys I know, some joke stuff would still go down well (thinking whopee cushion, those wind up racing granny type things)
A laser pen/keyring
Gloves/hat/scarf
Mug also good idea, some cheap 'laddish' ones here

In fact, play.com generally has some decent gifts for boys/men, probably worth checking out.

VoldemortsNipple · 06/11/2011 14:54

Oh and the Hollyoaks girls calender :) for revision/exam dates.

Play.com and game both do reconditioned console games for as little as £3. I have ordered some online and they were in mint condition....Not sure what consoles he has but we have PS3 and Wii

BlueRedGreen · 06/11/2011 15:54

Beanie hat/baseball cap, gloves, scarves, etc can be picked up pretty cheap, depends what he'd wear. TK Maxx always good for that kind of thing.

tralalala · 06/11/2011 17:47

thanks for all the ideas...am looking at play.com now then campusgifts cheers!

Really good idea Stewie, I've got all of the younger kids stuff from carboots, we always do and DS1 never minds about it being secondhand, he's canny enough to work out it means he gets loads more things!

a couple of suitable men's mags -take up lots of space!

mysteryfairy · 07/11/2011 21:40

Amazon groceries has some interesting and not particularly expensive stocking fillers e.g. Marshmallow foam in a jar, twinkies, jelly beans. Like anything on amazon prices seem to fluctuate a lot but an occasional glance through the grocery best sellers is worthwhile. My teenage DSs have accumulated so much junk it's also nice to think the latest lot will be consumed before the end of January!

inneedofchocolate · 08/11/2011 14:10

I do my DH a stocking (I know he's 30 but he's still a big kid!) and so far I've got him:
Rubik's Cube,
a Flint (for starting fires),
Shower Gel,
Vimto Sweets,
Bottle of Booze (not suitable for a 15 year old but maybe you could get him something non-alcoholic?),
Socks
and as always, a Chocolate Orange!

Other ideas could be a hat and gloves for the winter, magazines, something fun that he used to love when he was wee like a yo-yo or marbles.

rhondajean · 08/11/2011 19:54

Sweets are always a good idea. Its tradition here that your stocking always contains chocolate coins, a lindt santa, marshmallow lolly, chocolate lollies. After that lot there isnt much room to squeeze anything else in!

tralalala · 09/11/2011 18:07

redlac...missed your post vouchers is a fab idea, thanks for all of them, got a good list going now!

I remember my brother getting cool stocking fillers whilst I got smellies and knickers. Some examples were:

Boomerang
Top Trumps/Playing Cards
Mini Rough Guide to James Bond
Packet of his favourite biscuits (Hovis Digestives)
Can of Shandy
Hair Wax/Gel
Fingerless gloves/scarf/beanie hat/sports socks. (Do you have an Outlet Centre near you - for some nice sports brands?)
They really aren't ever to old for a giant tube of smarties/fruit pastilles etc are they? (I'm not!)
