My little girl will be 2 at the beginning of Decemebr. We are getting her an outdoor activity centre (swing/slide etc), and possibly a wooden dollhouse - is she too young? thinking maybe this should wait until next year?

One set of grandparents have got her a sit on pedal tractor, but the other set of grandparents are asking what they can get. So need suggestions?

Depending on budget, good presents for a two year old would be

Duplo
Happyland
Mini micro scooter
Balance bike
Easel
Pop up tent/tunnel

I've got friends who have a DD with a December birthday - they often get summer/outdoor birthday presents for her.

lazzaroo · 02/11/2011 20:13

Thanks for suggestions. Have just been browsing on-line and see lots of good reviews for the balance bikes. Might have to research them a bit more!

You think its easy buying for children, but im begginning to see that that is far from the truth, my youngest will be 2 on the 23rd Dec (BAD timing eh?) and I have no clue what to get her! : \
Also I have been having a few cross words with people in the family over joint presents for her, as in 1 pressie for both her xmas AND bday present.
This makes my blood boil, as nobody has ever suggested that to me, when my bday is the eo May, am I being unreasonable to expect people to spend twice on her in 2 days???? x

Blatherskite · 02/11/2011 21:02

My DD will be 2 on the 17th December. We're going to get her a little kitchen as she's getting really into roleplay.

Would also recommend the Balance bike. We've got an Early Rider than was DS's that she's just about getting big enough for now.

izzybizzybuzzybees · 02/11/2011 21:03

We got our daughter (who will be 2 in 2weeks) a balance bike and some happyland bits. A tag junior reading thing and book. Balance bike on offer in toys r us half price so only £24.99

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 02/11/2011 21:04

Mines will be 3 on Hogmanay Hmm but we have got lego duplo, happyland and drawing bits and pieces for him, he has a scooter from someone else and a helmet. Smile

WhatWouldLeoDo · 02/11/2011 21:11

YANBU whatkatiedidnext. DH's goddaughter also has a Dec 23 birthday - we'd never dream of getting her a 'joint' present.

Balance bikes are great lazzaroo. We've got the islabike rohan one which is pricey but it's very light and at the time was one of the only ones with a seat that would go low enough for DS. Having said that, he probably uses the scooter more often.

Tonksforthememories · 02/11/2011 21:11

My P's bought DS a balance bike for his 2nd birthday in September. He loves it, and the first scooter we bought him. We have a play kitchen in the loft that belonged to the DDs, but we're otherwise struggling for Christmas!

Honeydragon · 02/11/2011 21:11

dd is two on the 18th and is getting a Micro scooter and Happyland.

then a balance bike for xmas and happyland.

the micro scooter and bike will come in for the summer :)

Thankfully none of my family are favouring the one gift for both approach!

whatkatiedidnext31 · 02/11/2011 21:16

Thank you, whatwouldleodo just checking!! it does my head in! no doubt it will be the in-laws that do this! Angry

BiscuitNibbler · 02/11/2011 21:22

Two-year-old's favourite things are Happyland, doll's house, kitchen, pop-up tent and outdoor play equipment.

Absolute favourite out of those is the kitchen.

wonkylegs · 02/11/2011 21:24

Balance bike went down well with ours too... We've got a ridgeback scoot , was cautious to start off with now just wizzes everywhere. DS got this www.pintoys.com/catalog/product/08573-AMBULANCE/ , and the police car and wooden fire engine and they always go down well with his friends boys and girls alike

nannyj · 02/11/2011 21:30

Def a kitchen. My daughter loves hers. I may wait to get a dolls house when she's three.

Blatherskite · 02/11/2011 21:37

My DD loves Happyland and Duplo too but we've got so much from when DS was smaller that I just can't cope with any more!

pramsgalore · 02/11/2011 21:41

we got our dd when 2 a build a bear, she still loves it and bear bear goes everywhere with her.

lazzaroo · 02/11/2011 21:42

Great replies thank you! The joint present issue is going to happen with us soon I'm sure, but fortunately it hasn't yet. I wouldn't like that either!

Little one is very much into pretend play, loves making us cups of tea etc and has already got a little pretend kitchen. But it was very inexpensive and quite small so maybe we'll upgrade that this year and leave dolls house for next year. Have seen a lovely looking wooden cook/clean activity centre, it's expensive but looks great! Then we can always suggest accessories for other family that are asking for gift ideas!

She loves puzzles at the moment too, and am thinking she may like some of the playmobil or duplo sets.

God knows where we'll put it all!

my dd is in dec and sometimes my family may buy a joint birthday/christmas present for dd, but that is so she can have the more expensive thing she has asked for ie £20 for birthday £20 for christmas so £40 spent on joint, its dp's family who don't do joint because they forget her birthday Sad

hayleysd · 02/11/2011 21:55

Ds2 is 2 on 27th dec and he's getting a scooter, some wooden puzzles, pyjamas, also potty training stuff such as toilet seat, some clothes for his build a bear, clothes, and playmobil for his birthday do far.

Betty24 · 02/11/2011 22:22

My daughter will be two on 23rd December and having the same issue with present overload! We have a few things that she will hopefully grow into in the summer - balance bike and micro scooter and we have bought the janod retro kitchen for christmas. Lego Duplo numbers set and playmobil farm bought by family (both on sale in argos/tesco direct). lots of pretend play stuff from elc (cleaning set/play food and I will probably stick some fancy dress in the stocking too!).

My big hankering is for the moover dolls pram - not sure if she will get that much use out of it now but it is sooo cute.

Other favourites we already have are scuttlebug and the small wheelybug ladybird

Carpediem2007 · 02/11/2011 22:34

DS got a ELC kitchen when he was 2 1/2 for Xmas and that was a great toy, he still plays with it thought this is now a bit less frequent he played with it every day for 1 1/2 years (now 4).
The islibike Rohan bike was till too big for him at this Xmas (2 1/2y old) and it took him a few months to start using it but by 2y 9m -3y but he made the most of the balance bike and moved to normal bike (no stabiliser) a year later.
Duplos are great and he spends hours with them still.
Pop up tent and tunnel have been great toys around that age and quite cheap too. Indoors and outdoors use of this toy.
He had lots of figurins around that time which was great when he started doing imaginative play. A bit later (3 and +), he started playing with playmobil who do a younger age range too
Garden frames are good from 3+ onward but if you get them earlier, they are too high (could not get onto proper swings etc until 3+ so only used part of the frame under 3)
Wooden track train sets started around 2 as well and are still being used a lot.
Peppa pig toys were popular with him at 2 (wide range).
Lots of choice really, save some for later!

olibeansmummy · 02/11/2011 22:51

Ds (2.5) loves his balance bike but I think he'll be ready for a proper bike for his birthday in may, so it only got one summer's use :(. He's getting a lot of playmobil for Xmas, plus my first scalextrics, buzz and woody toys, puzzles, a mini skateboard, duplo/ mini mega bloks etc

SazZandASparkler · 02/11/2011 22:56

Mine loved Jigsaws (especially the Orchard Toys ones) and came on on leaps and bounds between 2 and 3 Farm is just lovely and good for 2 yr olds and Jungle is wonderful too. Great quality and they are on offer too Smile

tigerlillyd02 · 03/11/2011 00:32

My lo just turned 2 Sunday. Between xmas and birthday I've found lots of things ideal for him.
I concentrated mostly on happyland sets as they occupy him so much (train set, rocket, zoo, funfair, village, police station, post office, toy shop, christmas set, playmat/storage box to keep it all in), a few leapfrog toys (scout, leaptop, tag junior and extra books, phone, peek-a-shoe octopus), a big aeroplane which will go with the happyland items, trike, aquadraw and aquadoodle mats, playdoh, train table and train sets, kitchen, utensils for kitchen, tea set for kitchen, hoover, garage & cars, peppa pig buggy/car, aeroplane, whirley washer for bath, craft/drawing items. Some other smaller bits like new toothbrush, pj's, christmas story book, thomas bath set, small selection box - for xmas eve.
I started a few months ago and now all done, thankfully!

I bought my boy a scooter and balance bike for his 2nd birthday - he was too young for both. My daughter is 2 and she's got a Toddlebike which is the step before they're ready for either and she absolutely loves. Other favourites are her Trampoline - a bit of an investment but worth every penny and tea set. It's a tricky age as when they get to 3 they've got loads more interests so it's much easier.
