Im wanted to buy my dd a Wheelybug for xmas and was wondering what others views were on these and whether i should opt for the small or large.
She's only going to be 8 months at xmas but i want to get her something that she can grow into.x

Love them, they are robust and my boys have played on them for ages

My ds loves it, I bought the bigger size for his first birthday because I didn't want him to grow out of it too soon. Now he's 15 months he can get on and off on his own and push himself around on it, although not very fast thankfully! However he also likes to do "wheelies" on it which I didn't foresee him doing Hmm all in all though it's a fabulous toy.

Is there a big difference in the sizes and are they meant for different ages?

we have a small one, absolutely love it, in hindsight probably would have got the bigger size, but 3 year old (and in fact 10 year old) have alll managed on it!

comixminx · 02/11/2011 17:21

DD got one for her 1st birthday (small size) and it is lovely - but she doesn't get a lot of use out of it just yet because really they're intended for when the baby can walk by themselves, at least a bit. So you need to be ok with it not being used for a bit, I think. Even at 14 months she is not using it much yet.

paddypoopants · 02/11/2011 17:26

We got a small one for ds when he was 1. It was fine for size even though he's tall. To be honest he didn't getmuch use out of it until he was 2ish. He used his cheapy ride on much more as it was more stable to get on and off and didn't shoot off in all directions. In hindsight I would've got it later on and got the bigger size.

I bought dd2 a large one a couple years ago (cost me a small fortune) and she has hardly played with it Sad, i have kept it though as they look lovely, thought i might keep hold of it for any future grandchildren Grin.

Love it! Have the big one and dd was on it at 15 mths whizzing around. Ds wasn't that interested but my dad bought him a ride on John Deere tractor which made the wheelybug pale into comparison....

ENormaSnob · 02/11/2011 19:08

I have bought ds2 a large one for Christmas.

He is 2 this month and quite tall so think the small one would have been too small.

ThatsNotMyBabyBelly · 02/11/2011 19:39

I bought a small one for dd1 for her first birthday. She is tall and I thought that by the time she could get on and off herself she would be too big for it, so swapped for a larger one.

She plays with it a fair bit, as do all passing children, and it still looks brand new 18 months on. They keep their value as well I think.

WhatWouldLeoDo · 02/11/2011 19:46

DS had a small one but never really took to it. I don't think he was able to use it properly until way past his 1st birthday though. Like paddypoopants said, the cheap ride ons that you can get are much more stable.

Matronalia · 02/11/2011 21:26

The Mooki scuttlebugs and scramblebugs are worth looking at as well. DS has been zooming around on his scuttle bug since he was about a year old and its has been one of his most played with toys. It folds up small too so you can fit it under a pushchair.

don't know if this link will work

gaelicsheep · 02/11/2011 21:33

Definitely get the small one. My DD is 16 months and can only just climb onto it. They are great and a totally different thing from your normal push along/ride on toy. The beauty is their freedom of movement in every direction. Personally though I would leave the Wheelybug until your DD is a fair bit older, maybe for her birthday?

Carpediem2007 · 02/11/2011 22:02

DS is 4 and I can sell one second hand if you want it (it looks like a bee) as we are decluttering (Reading area)
I am seriously planning a car boot sale before Xmas to make some space for new toys

4madboys · 02/11/2011 22:11

we have a ladybird one, but its broken, have had it for years tho and it has survived four boys until recently!

so we are going to get dd one for her 1st bday (5th dec) or for xmas, cant decide between teh bee or the mouse tho, tought decision, we call dd merryn mouse, hence getting the mouse, but love the look of the bee with the little antenae.

we aregoing to get the small size, the ladybird we have is the big size and my 6yr old can ride it and so can my 9yr old actually but we watn this to be for dd so wil get her the smaller one so its for her and her big brothers then cant pinch it!

Betty24 · 02/11/2011 22:15

They are supercute, and the small one will last for years. I have the small ladybird for my daughter who is 20 months and it is the perfect size. Probably best for when the are confident walkers as the wheels are pretty speedy but it will look fab in the corner of the nursery until then! good resale value - I got mine from ebay for £25 and good as new - they dont really get scuffed up so would hold their value for years.
