First Christmas and first grandchild on both sides. What photo gifts have gone down well - Mousemats? Calendars? Mugs? Other?

Just a nice picture in a nice frame.

"Kodak pulse digital photo frame"

In MIL's case a digital photo frame was a complete waste of money. She doesn't want to sit watching pictures changing all the time. She also doesn't want to waste electricity by switching it on. I found hers stuffed into a cupboard when we were staying with her this week. She much prefers to have a photo that she can look at all the time, such as on a calendar.

Done the pic in frame for the grandmothers bdays but notebooks from snapfish an excellent idea.

I do calendars every year for grandparents and great-grandparents and they always go down well. I have in the past done mugs and they are beautiful - Snapfish does collage mugs where you can put up to 15 photos onto a mug. Table mats and coasters are other gifts you can get - we did some for my parents last year from Snapfish and were very impressed with the quality. Another idea (one I haven't tried yet!) is a photo canvas - if you have a really special picture they put them onto a canvas. This is a bit more pricey but might be a nice way to mark baby's first Christmas.

Calendar good idea. I made a quick calendar for myself on Word with pictures of DS and my mum said I should make one for my Grandad this year.

I've done snappish calendars this year and a couple of years back.
This years are the expensive£19 glossy ones and the have come up really well. I got them 1/2 price.
Set up an account with them even if your not sure what you want because they are always sending out email offers.

Don't put too many pictures on the mugs they come out too small.

photo keyrings went down really well with my ILs

also those collage-poster thingamy - easy to frame if they want to, or stick on the fridge and you can get a good number of pics on them.

I got my Mum a jute bag with a picture on it. It gets used all the time, she was very pleased with it.

I have done calendars a couple of times after my mum admired one of her friends. They have really enjoyed them. We get one too ( as I get them done when a BOGOF offer is on) and my dc love them. I think I love them just as much as they do though.

grumpypants · 28/10/2011 18:09

my photo notebooks arrived today (snapfish) and they are lovely. i am thrilled - thats one generation done, plus a couple of godmothers...

Jcee · 28/10/2011 20:06

We were in your situation last year and did photo calendars from Photobox. They were such a hit, both DM and MIL are dropping big hints for another calendar this year!

I've got one of those collage things Flubba mentions framed on my wall - it's lovely and everyone always admires it but it was a pain to do finding pics which went together nicely but that might have been down to picky DP making a bit of a meal of it
