DD loves listening to CDs and is getting a Cd player for Christmas. I'd like to get her a couple of new CDs with music on. We have nursery rhymes. She might like some short bits of classical music or some songs. It's very hard to tell online which is good.

Any ideas?

Try Blue Moo or Rhinoceros Tap by Sandra Boynton - they are excellent for that age and come with lovely books that have all the lyrics and drawings.

Thanks. I'm looking at them. They look fun.

DD 4 listening to disney princess CDs - there's lots of multi collections available or individual soundtracks- e.g. tangled, H.Montana

That's an idea. We have a thing that plays little snippets of disney songs. I must say it does bother me that they take well-known tunes and change the words. It's put me off them. Do your ones do this?

the soundtracks are usually the same - same singers aswell whereas compilations are the same songs but sung differently but my dds dont care! Milkshake (channel 5) does a good album too

my DD (3.5 years) loves an old S Club 7 Cd we had around, she listens to it constantly!

DS age 4 ( last christmas)
Favourite CD was the soundtrack to "Oliver "
Closely followed by " russian ballet favourites"

he also rather likes audio books " Harry and the Dinosaurs" and various Rhol Dahl stories.

This year ... He kinda likes teh Ukulele orchestra of Great Britain, is still a huge fan of ballet music ( coz its exciting and you can imagine pirates fighting to it!) and is liking rock a bit more, Had a good bop about the living room to the Levellers the other day.

There's a brilliant CD called Sonsense Nongs by Michael Rosen - i think there's a book too, but we just bought the CD - and every child that hears it is in hysterics. Very very good.

The other one I recommend is Colours are Brighter, but I don't think you can get it anymore. It's worth tracking down though, if you can find it anywhere. You can listen to the songs on myspace i think.

Also, don't forget audio books. Our best purchase ever on that front was The Giggler Treatment by Roddy Doyle, read by Tommy Tiernan.

Ds2(3) has a cd of Disney classic songs that cost £3 in sainsburys that both he and his big brother (6) adore. Things like bear necessities, supercallerfragi etc, April showers, zipideedodah etc. All the things that were classic even in my day.

Ds2 loves it so much that he listens to it every night, carries it round with him when it's not on and try to put it on whenever he can. He even tries to go to sleep cuddling the box Hmm which can't be the best cuddly thing at night (it does always get taken out of his bed once he's asleep!).

Only downside is that it has pictures of mickey mouse all over the cover and not a single song sung by the ruddy rodent to be heard on it. So first reactions of ds to it were :( as he thought it was a mickey cd rather than a disney songs cd iyswim. But once he heard it that was it - he would have it on a loop if he could!
