Dh (age 40)
-loves gadgets (but researches and buys these himself). He's really picky so it would be impossible to pick a gadget that he'd definitely like anyway.
-has too many shirts for work (thanks to me gifting them in previous years)
-loves computer ganmes, movies and music (but buys or rents them himself so unlikely to be able to surprise him)
-loves cars and programmes like Top Gear.

  • loves zombies (HUGE fan of Walking Dead, 28 days later etc)
-enjoys DIY (but has a lot of tools etc)
  • plays squash, jogs and cycles (has recently upgraded the staples like racket, bike, shoes etc)

He wouldn't like

  • aftershave and smellies
  • books

What on earth can I buy???
The only things that I can think of are

  • Christmas jumper (He ADORES them)
  • experience day (I've seen a Zombie themed one that he could go on with ds1).
  • something for Christmas Day night after the kids have gone to sleep (problem is kids will expect to see gifts for him under the tree)

Thanks for any help.

I'm in the same boat more or less so no help.

DH doesn't drive (or have any interest in cars)
Doesn't eat chocolate and very few sweets
Has a kindle type thing so no books
Likes computers but I've no idea what he wants/needs

He likes Pecksniffs aftershave and it's a bit different
Bottle of whiskey/brandy

The joy of having me as his DW [okay that's pushing it]

One year sheer desperation drove me to buy DH a set of fabulous cheese knives (colonel something or other) and an expensive bottle of port. I made sure I had some cheese he liked in the fridge. He declared it to be the best present ever!

This year he's getting a saxophone (which I just know I'm going to regretGrin)

Lordoftheflies- Maybe we can wrap ourselves up as a gift?

Helenagrace- He loves port and cheese so would probably like that too.

Josephinebonaparte- That's so funny! He's a list man so he'd love that.

Your dh sounds scarily like mine, although mine doesn't play squash or cycle but is a gym bunny and favours the weights.
I got him an olive wood cheeseboard last year with some nice cheese, gourmet type breads and chutneys and a decent port.

This year I'm stumped!

inneedofchocolate · 26/10/2011 21:36

Can I join in too?

My DH will regularly say that he doesn't want anything but once Christmas is done he will always complain joke about not getting anything good. The thing is, if he really wants something he will just buy it himself.

He has every gadget, tool, game that he wants. What do I do?????

I usually end up buying him a pair of adidas trainers and some clothes but that's getting a bit boring now.

Help!!!

tummytickler · 26/10/2011 22:27

How about something like this ?
He could practice in case the Zombie Apocalypse ever becomes a reality and he needs to escape to the hills/forest/whatever?

crazygracieuk · 27/10/2011 11:29

Tummytickler- He would really enjoy that.

My other problem is that his birthday is 3rd Jan...

I have lots of sympathy to those of you with equally difficult husbands.

The only other thing I've thought of is how much of a coffee fan he is. Might go to Whittards and see what they have.

I have got my DH a telescope. Does that help?

groovejet · 27/10/2011 14:41

If he's a coffee fan how about an aeropress coffee maker and if he's a latte type coffee drinker add a bodum milk frother to go with it and maybe some coffee syrups.

For nice coffee I got a tin of Grumpy Yule coffee for my DH last year, got it from the Oxfam shop as they sell fairtrade food in our one but you can buy it online just search for grumpy mule coffee.

Me & DH are big coffee drinkers so many gifts to each other at xmas usually include soe sort of coffee item :D

groovejet · 27/10/2011 14:43

Also does he have a gaming chair, DH has asked for a gaming chair / high back bean bag for xmas for when he's playing on xbox.

For gadgetphiles (sp.?) you can't compete - they know exactly what they want and if you try to guess it always goes wrong! So new ideas needed!! We found that time gifts were really special.

Could you design your own vouchers - not necessarily romantic ones - but eg A free Sunday morning once a month; you'll mow the lawn 2 x per year, his choice of DVDs etc etc

OR look at doing your own experiences. One year I booked for (Now ex-D)H and (ex)MIL a tour around Lords cricket ground but you can do Chelsea and other football grounds. But afternoon tea or a theatre show etc (even Top Gear Live). You can use Tesco vouchers or the rail companies do buy 1 ticket get 1 free.

Book a weekend away - with kids as we all know that takes masses of planning and effort (and help from nearest and dearest!) so is a really appreciated gift!

One theme we had going for years for stocking presents was naffist gift of the year (under £5) - always got rewrapped and passed on!

My final suggestion was to go to an ultra posh shop - I used to go to Fortnum and Masons - and buy what people like eg jam, tea etc but it is a cut above the everyday which is always quite special for Xmas. Bear
