I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread to post on recommendations for great presents. Which presents have you bought so far that you think are absolutely brilliant and would like to recommend to other mumsnetters?

I got some Lalaloopsy silly hair dolls (discounted at argos) which I think my DDs will love! Also this for DD2 which I think is fab!

Would love to hear about everyone else's favourite purchases so far x

Good idea for a thread. I see nobody's responded though! I will kick off - shopping on Sat and found 'the works' to have loads if lovely kids books, will do very nicely for friends children, nieces and nephews, etc. I was also super-impressed with the gift section of Wilkinsons (just popped in and it's brilliant this year!) spent £40 ish on stocking fillers, gifty bits for friends, etc. NEVER normally buy anything from there.

Anyway, down to business. I gave just bought DPs present from DS today - tickets for his favourite band who are touring in Jan. V plead with myself.

I am looking for inspiration for my DM.....

I just got a load of Body Shop stuff delivered. It was already half price but then I entered a code and got money off and free delivery! I'm planning on making goody bags/ hampers with them.

I think the codes are 35off and if you buy 3 cucumber cleansing milks you will get 1 free and automatic free delivery.

There are more details on HotUkDeals.

FreddoBaggyMac · 27/10/2011 08:43

Great ideas you two thanks! I'm going to check out those body shop codes as I need a few smelly things for my DDs! Had a look at the Boots website the other day though and I was quite impressed with their offerings for younger girls and teenagers, and their 3 for 2 offer is fab.

I def need to check out the gift section of Wilkinsons billgrangers... might do that this weekend. Have you thought of a photo calendar for your DM? I got one from snapfish for my MIL and am very impressed, you can even add in birthdays and special events so it'll save her the job of having to write them all on!

I'm a bit disappointed my amazing thread has not had more responses though Smile Anyone else out there with present ideas to share?

Great thread - will pop back later to see if there are some more ideas! I too love the photo calanders from Snapfish.

Anyone got a computer mad brother/nephew/friend who's impossible to buy for and you usually end up getting very boring presents for? I have this problem with my student nephew and have found for him a USB fridge - it's a mini fridge (will hold a can of drink for example) that you plug into your computer. They're not expensive - £12 - 20 and I'm planning of making up a hamper with a selection of drinks. Sorry I'm not sure how to post links but you can buy them from Amazon or if you google USB fridge you can find other places as well.

Would love to find ideas for sister/BIL who have everything!

Think this might only have a limited audience but have bought dd who is a huge pokemon fan this for her stocking.

overmydeadbody · 27/10/2011 09:02

Well I've taken a pledge to make all my christmas presents this year apart from the nintendo DS that DS will be getting, so not sure if my suggestions help really?

All the men who I give presents to will be getting a roll up spanner case made by me. Apart from my dad obviously!

I like the idea of making lip balm too to give as little presents to teachers etc., and maybe soap too. So far have bought the ingredients and the adorable little aluminium lip balm tins. Now just have to make it and design some little labels to go on the top.

ThePumpkinKing · 27/10/2011 09:24

The best presents from previous years have been a Maxi micro scooter (now on its 3rd owner and still going strong!).

A Glow Doodle board. Very cool, Christmassy colours and very durable.

Weirdly, a set of figures from The nightmare Before Christmas. We got them from the Disney Store last year, and they come out whenever the film is watched Grin.

ThePumpkinKing · 27/10/2011 09:36

Oh, I'm on a roll now Grin.

Those wooden train sets - like Brio, but from Ikea or Tesco are amazing. They are so easy to put together that even a 3 year old can make tracks with bridges and turntables, and they never break. They all seem to be compatible with other brands too.

FreddoBaggyMac · 27/10/2011 12:25

OOO glow doodle board looks great!

I know it's on another thread but just to let anyone reading know the sainsbury's half price toy sale is on today! I have just been and they have monster high dolls for £7.50, lots of lego for half price and that dance star mickey thing for £35...Lots of wonderful presents!!

ThePumpkinKing - thank you :) was thinking of buying my 3yr old DS the Ikea track, now I will.

I like these things for people hard to buy for:

I just bought some cat ear muffs in Tiger (a small chain in random places around the south east) for my friend's daughter. They were £2. Worth googling Tiger Store to see if there is one near you.

I also bought there mini easels and canvases, great babushka doll jewellery boxes and jigsaws. All just a couple of quid each.

acsec · 27/10/2011 23:11

yellowflowers I love Tiger! I was in my local one today looking at the earmuffs (but the plain fleece ones rather than the cat ones.) Loads of fab things in there!

FreddoBaggyMac · 28/10/2011 11:03

I've never heard of Tiger! will google it now...

billgrangersrisotto · 28/10/2011 11:09

Love the hear muffs!!! Who can I buy them for?!

DM has a photo diary as her gift from my DS this year, so can't do photo calendar. Any other ideas lovely people? She's not one for makeup or body lotion (much as I try to convince her of the joys of clarins bath products!).

sis · 28/10/2011 11:24

just posted this on another thread but this one is more appropriate - you can get vouchers for 30 minutes or one hour long driving lessons for those aged between 11 - 17 years at www.youngdriver.eu/news/press-release-01-02-10/. From what I can see on the website - the lessons are in different locations in England and Scotland and they are in full sized Seat Ibiza cars. They also have cars adapted for children with certain physical disabilities.
