Angel Chimes?

Are they lovely and Christmassy or are they just annoying?

I've seen some and I want them to be my new decoration for this year, but DH pulled a face and said the chiming would be a pain the arse - is it? And he started yada yada-ing about me leaving lit candles, blah blah. I do have a habit of leaving my straighteners on but I'm sure I'd remember to blow a few candles out Blush

Should I buy them or is there something more exciting out there I don't know about? Grin

You can't leave the candles lit, the pinging would get to you!

I have 3 sets.

ThingsThatGoFlumpInTheNight · 16/10/2011 21:43

So when do you have them lit then?

I have an image in my head of a lovely festive scene in my sitting room; us sitting around the fire all cosy with the tree lights twinkling and the chimes gently chiming in the backround.... In reality DH would be sitting there shooting me daggers with cheese in his ears.

What do you do with yours/where do you have them? Smile

Oh I love Angel Chimes.
I've had a set from Christmas Angels in York for 3-4 years now.
I don't forget they are lit, because the noise is quite annoying loud.

They remind me of childhood, my mum had some when I was 8ish, but typically all the fiddly bits got lost.
(I keep mine in a sealer-bag)

ThingsThatGoFlumpInTheNight · 16/10/2011 21:49

So when does anybody actually light them then? I don't want to be talked out of getting some Confused

I don't put any decorations up until 10 days before Christmas. (DS birthday in December)

I put mine on the kitchen windowsill, to light in the evening. Probably start lighting candles when DC finish for holidays.

Get some TTGFITN they are lovely. Mine really do take me back to childhood.Probably one of the only decorations my mum put up.She never bothered much with that side of Christmas Sad.

Do yours take Tealights or the small thin candles?

ThingsThatGoFlumpInTheNight · 16/10/2011 23:00

Lord I've just spent ages minutes trying to work out what these 'TTGFITN' decorations are I should be getting for Christmas. Then I worked out what you meant Blush

WinterIsComing · 17/10/2011 00:39

Um. That ACRONYM. Not scrotum. Preview is your friend. On phone. Sorry.

startail · 17/10/2011 01:08

Love ours don't light them very often because I'm scripting for thin candles.

startail · 17/10/2011 01:09

WinterIsComing · 17/10/2011 09:22

mum has a vintage set.. i think they are sweet, and it feels like a little science experiment...

PorkChopSter · 17/10/2011 10:31

I have these - the gold ones.

Imagine a very long table, set with red and gold tablecloth, place mats, napkins (in rings), angel chimes lit and pinging inbetween serving dishes of steaming turkey, brussels, cranberry sauce and bread sauce ...

They go through the candles v quickly though, buy extra Grin

ThingsThatGoFlumpInTheNight · 17/10/2011 13:26

Hmm this is getting confusing. My heart says I want the original one with the ting, but my head is saying maybe one without the ting would be good. What to do?!

Those tea light ones are tiny though. The proper ones are, erm, proper sized.

I had a set years ago and loved them , but the parts mysteriously disappeared.

I have a variation on these that are set on a circle of tubing and go round with heat off the radiator or fire, but no tinging.
