OLD THREAD

We were all on about pinterest, jars, and where we are up to in our christmas planning :)

Lets go...

It was alright, I had a steady stream of customers. I didn't make anymoney, but have started to cover costs (mainly due to not selling anything last time!)
I've got one more on the 19th and I want to make some edible gifts for that one as its a school christmas fayre and i think they will go down well. I'm thinking snowman soup and festive popcorn? Just need to source some cheap jars to put it all in.

MartyrStewart · 10/11/2011 11:50

Addicted if you are doing a christmas fayre can I recommend these as cheap and easy to make. Smile

Flubba · 10/11/2011 20:28

Well I have a confession Blush; my dad made chicken pâté and I just had to open one of my red onion chutney jars to accompany it. Mmmmh mmmh, mmmmmmmmmmh. Just taste-testing you understand. Perfectly acceptable. :o

mogs0 · 10/11/2011 23:38

I have done my first event this evening Smile. I sold 4 pin cushions, 3 tree decorations, (the only) 2 packs of crayons because I forgot to take the packaging with me to bag up some more and 2 pencils (which weren't homemade).

I spent hours filling and wrapping the buckets in cellophane last night and didn't sell a single one. Hopefully, they'll get more interest at the Christmas fete in a couple of weeks.

I tried to make a felt decoration aswell but ran out of thread halfway round and decided to give it a rest until I had more time so might concentrate on them now for the next event.

overmydeadbody · 11/11/2011 07:50

Flubba I found a really good doorstop tutorial here on pinterest. Hope that helps?

I have just finished making three roll-up car caddies, the first one was experimental, the next two turned out really well. They are really easy to make, I recommend them.

overmydeadbody · 11/11/2011 07:52

well done mogs and addiction on your craft fayres.

I am getting nervous about mine in a few weeks time...

minicorrect · 11/11/2011 09:26

Hi all!

Been reading for the past few weeks (it's taken that long!!) and now want to join in.

Have no craft skills so sticking to food/drink ideas and have got some Xmas pud vodka stewing in a cupboard to give my binge-drinking DSisters and their BFs and plan to make some Aztec bark to go with it - although theancientmarinator's chocolate advice has made this one seem more difficult than it first appeared. Especially as I have to use posh, dark choc for my dairy intolerant DSis.

Realised I have loads of frozen berries in the freezer that were meant for summer smoothies and a bag of jam sugar that expires this month, so going to attempt some glam too - got some pink edible glimmer bits which I'll use and hope they don't just dissolve! Bought some emergency jars from Asda yesterday - 18p each and currently filled with pasta sauce (which will be flushed down the loo later). They're not very pretty though - just plain jars with white lids, so may need some inspiration to pretty them up.

Also want to attempt the mincemeat as well (got lots of ingredients to make this, Xmas cake and pud this week) but was wondering if anyone can advise on slow cooker method as this equipment is seriously underused and I'm determined to find more ways to use it!

Anyway, thanks for all the fantastic ideas - I'm truly addicted now Grin

Hi all,

Marking my place - I've dropped the ball a bit and need to get back into Christmas mode.

Back later Grin

HippyHippopotamus · 11/11/2011 09:47

cjcregg my ball is with your ball!

i joined this thread weeks and weeks ago and despite my good intentions, haven't done a thing! oops! i guess i should at least start by writing a list of recipients!

CJCregg · 11/11/2011 10:49

Grin @ hippy.

Jars, jars, I need jars. Someone linked to a fab website for jars but it's miles back on the thread and I haven't got time CBA to go back and find it Blush.

That's not the right attitude, is it? That's not going to get Christmas sorted

Flubba · 11/11/2011 11:31

My oven works again!! Just two months and £100 down the line, and hey presto, it works!

Baked goods, here I come. :)

Before i attempt this skittle vodka malarky, can i just make sure its ok to use old bottles? And if not where do i purchase 200ml ish glass bottles from on the cheap Confused

OllieinOrange · 11/11/2011 18:20

Time to de-lurk. I love this thread. Im ashamed to say I have nothing new to add but wanted to link to these Reindeer Cupcakes which I think I have linked too on the Christmas threads for the last three years!

reindeer cupcakes here

Mine are obviously not as smooth and symmetrical as these - but I like to think of my reindeer as more lifelike. I mean, what reindeer can stay that groomed after flying round the world? Wink

DSs and I also like these christmas puddings made out of rice crispies here.

Trills · 11/11/2011 18:39

I second Wares of Knutsford - I had very good customer service from them.

CJCregg · 11/11/2011 19:42

Thanks for the jar links, thunderbolt and trills. I just need to take a deep breathe and actually pay for what's in my basket. Then there'll be no stopping me.

Flubba · 11/11/2011 21:39

OverMyDeadBody only just seen your link from earlier - funnily enough it links to a tutorial that I originally had on pinterest and your link is the one that is repinned from my board!! :o :o (small circles!)

MartyrStewart · 11/11/2011 21:59

I am just trying a little bit of my Christmas pudding brandy with coke as a mixer - It's Lush

AshaBoo · 12/11/2011 15:35

Made a mistake - got bloomin peppermint candy canes instead of strawberry and have s**t coloured vodka brewing. Do I just throw it away now, or will it be ok?

overmydeadbody · 12/11/2011 16:31

Oh dear, lol Flubba, small circles indeed!

overmydeadbody · 12/11/2011 22:21

I have just finished writing a tutorial on how to make Christmas tree baubles using fabric scraps, really cheap and really easy, would be a good craft to do with kids or even just to make so you have nice unique tree decorations. Could make good gifts too?

Here is the link, let me know what you think. I'm really pleased with how they turned out!

LoveBeingAFirework · 12/11/2011 22:35

overmydeadbody WOW they are fantastic, worth buying material to chop up Grin

overmydeadbody · 12/11/2011 23:25

Grin firework, I think so!

Flubba · 13/11/2011 07:01
