LoveBeingAWitch · 03/11/2011 07:28

Glitter in jam? That is genius. [wonders if buying jam and adding glitter would work]

Wholelottarosie that'll be me too, then on Xmas eve I'll be running round like a blue arsed fly trying to buy everyone presents Grin

Well I was making the knitting roll, cut and pinned it all out, even cut out to male a door stop too. Started sewing was just thinking how well it was going and the bobbin ran out. I haven't had to do the bobbin before and couldn't get it done was so mad, dh came home late nut has figured it out so roll on for today. My first seeing project Grin

Glitter jam:

1 Make jam.
2 Stir in some edible glitter.
3 Put in jars.

HippyHippopotamus · 03/11/2011 09:32

I prefer Thunder's recipe Grin

Flubba · 03/11/2011 09:37

Good work lovebeingawitch - I ran out of red thread the other day, which was nothing short of a Disaster! >>runs and hides at sadness of life

Zeeky · 03/11/2011 13:36

Lisa - buy a bag of jam sugar and they have a foolproof recipe on the side for strawberry or raspberry jam. Only takes about 5 mins to make!

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 03/11/2011 14:07

thanks Zeeky will do this at the weekend!! Going to wrap presents today and buy more ribbon off ebay!! Grin

Zeeky · 03/11/2011 14:45

I've been making labels for my Christmas Marmalade - seems to have taken me an inordinate amount of time! The problem I have is that I have now bought so much paper/card/labels/ribbons etc that I can't decide how to wrap/label things - I am so indecisive!!

I also just made a button heart like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/leahhalliday/product/vintage_button_heartswww.notonthehighstreet.com/leahhalliday/product/vintage_button_hearts" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this one. I'm really pleased with it, as it is bigger than the one shown and only cost about 50p to make. I like it so much, I think I will keep it for myself instead of giving it as a present!

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 03/11/2011 16:16

Well been going through my gifts to wrap and added ribbons to home made items today and candy canes, and i've decided to chuck my lemon hand scrub, it just doesn't look great Confused and i keep having to stir the bugger and when put next to my brownie in a jar, snowman soup or brown sugar body scrub it just looks crap!! Everything else looking lovely tho!!!

Zeeky · 03/11/2011 16:58

Ooo, did you make some brown sugar body scrub then? And it turned out ok? I have the recipe for it somewhere. Might give that a try instead of handscrub...

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 03/11/2011 17:09

Handscrub wasn't good, the brown sugar body scrub is looking lovely and smells nice and sweet too!

roundabout1 · 03/11/2011 17:19

brown sugar scrub sounds nice. Do you have the recipe?

buying jam & adding glitter sounds good but feels like cheating even though I have very little time I don;t know if I can cope with the guilt! Does that make me sound a bit mad?

Flubba · 03/11/2011 18:05

zeeky your linky isn't working and I'm very nosey so I need to know what you've made :)

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 03/11/2011 18:16

AshaBoo · 03/11/2011 20:49

Another one waiting impatiently zeeky

I have made my first crafty thing - the felty felty tree. Do not use crap felt otherwise you have to cut out hundred of sodding circles to make it even vaguely tree shape. Will add a pic at the weekend for you all to laugh at (damn you Hobbycraft!)

Zeeky · 03/11/2011 21:00

Sorry about the link! I have uploaded some pics onto my profile of what I have made so far - button hearts, button tree and Christmas Marmalade. Also got loads of jams and chutneys made too.

Plan to make some Lemon curd and Lime curd tomorrow.

How long does the Christmas Pud Vodka and Blackberry Vodka take to brew? I made mine a few weeks ago now and not sure when I need to bottle them. Not a big spirits drinker myself, so not much point in me tasting them to check.

AshaBoo · 03/11/2011 21:09

Very sweet button hearts, thank you zeeky How did you make them, pray tell?

Flubba · 03/11/2011 21:11

nice labels on your chutneys!

Zeeky · 03/11/2011 21:25

The button hearts were easy. I got some fine red wire from a garden centre/florist and threaded the buttons on. When I felt that I had enough buttons to make a shape, twisted the wire together to seal it and bent it into a heart shape. Want to try a star shape too. Any old thin wire would do. A bit fiddly at times but satisfying result.

Flubba thanks for the label compliment - took me FOREVER to sort them out as just could not decide on paper/font/shape/colours etc etc! The rest of my jam and chutney just has a plain white sticker on the jar with a clipart picture of whatever flavour it is e.g. a strawberry or tomato. I wanted to make extra-special labels for my gold-glittery-star marmalade Wink

theancientmarinator · 03/11/2011 21:28

um.... if you open jam, stir in glitter then re-pot it will it not go mouldy quite quickly? I thought the point of covering homemade while still way above 100 degrees was that this sealed it while still sterile - would you have to reheat bought jam before glitterifying and re-potting it?

Zeeky nice pics and loving the idea of your keeping all your homemade things for yourself - if that's not a sign that it's worth giving as a gift....

acsec · 03/11/2011 22:32

Very impressed Zeeky

My lovely mum bought me some labels for my chutneys - I'm going to label everything up this weekend and finish some bits, then hopefully put up some pics.

Zeeky · 04/11/2011 13:00

Just put up a pic of the felt/fabric hearts and stars I made last year. Once I got going with them I couldn't stop! I started with a Buttonbag kit and then went from there. Planning to do more this as gifts.

BunMyOven · 04/11/2011 13:50

Love your work Zeeky! Especially like the idea of putting cloves in the decorations to make them smell lovely Smile

AshaBoo I made that felt tree too (picture on my profile) I used nice 0.4mm thick felt and it still ended up scruffy looking very homemade - definitely need to invest in a compass if I want to try again!

Received the fabric and ribbon to make DS's Christmas stocking today - time to learn how to make a Christmas stocking I think! Wink

Glamalade - love it! Grin
