Dear Aunt, who loves to shop and give presents, is off to the USA for a shopping trip holiday, and has asked what she should get DD (9) and DS (7) for Christmas while she's there. What's better/cheaper/more fun in the USA?

As far as I'm aware, everything! Mostly disney things ie- how to train your dragon merch- unavailable here basically.
Character stuff in general

What our kids loved was getting their names painted in jazzy styles by those street artists around Central Park in NY on a card-framed board. Something
like this

  • but you don't have to have Disney stuff on - they will do the name to any design you want.

Not easy to transport home but it is manageable.

Anthing like the fur reals, password journals/fold out make up boxes (electronic can't remember the name) - they are the same in dollars as pounds so a bargain.
Look online at toys r us uk then look at the .com

Is your older dd into clothes? As brands such as abercrombie uggs are much cheaper than over here. Also a shop called the childrens place has some lovely clothing.
With regard to toys check prices here first and also they have some barbies that we don't get here as well as puppy in my pocket type toys.

PJ's. Grammy sends PJ's for ds and they're way better and nicer than the character ones you get here. His favourite are the fleece ones which I have yet to find anywhere here.

Thanks all. Might go for clothes for DD. DS only really wants books Lego and toy cars so might give it a miss for him.

Converse are good, so much cheaper. You can find out their equivalent American sizes on the interweb....... Also ask her to get weird sweets and toiletries for surprise things in their stockings.....Lucky Auntie Smile

American candy - bags of miniature MrGoodbars, BabyRuths, hershey's kisses, lifesavers etc...candy corn for Halloween... all the iconic american candy that is referenced in tv, movies and books.

This time of year Halloween stuff is better in the US than here.

Oh, and old school Crayolas - 64 colours in a box with a flip top lid and a sharpener in the back - I can never find them here.

yy to Crayola, and it is reasonably priced. Children's Place is a nice shop for children up to 10-12 ish. Rose Art is the same quality more or less.

Target has nice stuff too, especially in the pajama line. Their clothes for smaller children are very cute indeed. Target carries Converse One Star and they have a decent toy section too. The Crayola stuff is probably not in the toy section but in the office and art supply area. This section also carries items like 'make your own lip balm' kits and the like, which can be fun for girls to do with friends.

Michaels craft shops (midwest, maybe elsewhere too) have a good variety of Chicken Socks, Klutz books and American Girl titles -- craft/'how to' books/kits with supplies included. Plus lovely drawing pads, watercolour paper, learn to knit/crochet kits, beading kits, etc.

Barnes and Noble bookstores' children's section carries a lovely variety of children's books, and kits along the same lines as Michaels.

Rose Art same as Crayola, not Children's Place...
