Gift ideas for new born..

My DD will be about 3 weeks at christmas, and i have no clue what to buy for a new born baby.
Obviously dont want to go overboard as she wont have a clue whats going on.
So far, i have 1 teddy. I'm stuck..
Any ideas??

My DS was 4 weeks old at his first Xmas, and my Mum got him something similar and it was lovely. I honeslty can't be sure what DH and I bought him (2nd born and all that!)

its so hard though isn't it! I just don't have a clue where to start, but as i said i dont want to go overboard because she won't have a clue what's going on! I want it to be special though. First time mum!

Why would you buy your own baby Christmas gifts? Bonkers. Leave the tat to doting relatives. Or better still get them to buy you actual useful stuff, as it's your first!

I'm sure she'll get plenty from relatives aswell, but i'm very excited and obviously want to get her a few bits myself.

The baby won't have a clue! It is pointless. Buy them a nice Christmas outfit or something they need (if anything). Other people will give things. Start a savings account rather than waste money.

I think it's lovely to have something to plan and 'open' on xmas day.

I was given a bear for my first xmas, and he was my favourite bear for years and years.

The fact that she's so young just means that you have the enjoyment rather than her.

Young babies respond well to black, red and white toys. This might do or this. There are also lots of other items suggested on the page if you scroll down.

Or cuddly toy wise there is this.

Alternatively buy something that will make your life easier such as this or this.

I know that its pointless, but its something, personally, that i want to do.

We bought our really beautiful Christmas stockings that we plan to use for every Christmas. I love the idea that when they are 20 and coming home from college or something and I'm getting out the stockings I'll know that they have always had those stockings at Christmas. I'm a wee bit sentimental about things like that though.

We also have a bauble with their names on too for the tree that we love, again hoping they last a long time, but I guess they are likely to get broken at some point.

It is more the sentimental value though, thats why i only want to get a few things!
I'll be taking plenty of photo's so she can appreciate it when she's older

A reusable advent calendar. I got one for my son when he was tiny and will hopefully use it till he is too grown up and embarrassed! Ours is little stockings on a string but John Lewis do lovely wooden ones.

I know its not the same, but my DS2 will be 4 months and DS1 will be 5, and my mum is buying each of them £50 of premium bonds, a christmas outfit and a samll token gift as she doesnt want to buy them "tat" - fair enough!

All being well, we will have a one month old (due 21st Nov) and I'm the same as you- I want to give my baby something on Christmas day. It's not pointless if that is what you want to do.

I love all the ideas here! I bought some outfits that were in the Gap sale and a Very Hungry Caterpillar toy for him. I'll also make a taggie and some small soft toys I think.
