Six of us for dinner here courtesy of food ordered from Waitrose and a bit more from M&S.
Started doing this when all our kids were younger and used to take them with us. Always took it in turns each year going to each others houses.
Are still doing it although not with the kids any more. They usually use one of the parent free houses and have about a dozen friends round (seems to be more mess to tidy after one of their get togethers, beer cans, beer up the wall(!), lipstick on wall, crisps crushed into carpet etc etc.
One set of parents have gone to Australia so suspect that may be the early 20 something base for this years NYE.
At least he'll have time to tidy up in the week before parents return!

biggirlsdontcry · 28/12/2010 12:23

We will be celebrating DD's 5Th birthday Smile so big party with lots ofhyper excited children running around & then a tea with godparents / grandparents etc .

eandh · 28/12/2010 12:26

was going to friends and all staying over however both of my dd's poorly and now found out more people sleeping over which means lots of children in one room and dd2 hates strangers (we dont know the other 2 families invited) so will be up and down asking for me so now staying at home.

Been an awful year, lost an uncle and my wonderful wonderful Nan passed away then DH left (then I discovered he was having an affair) he wanted to come back and we were trying then a huge incident occured which means he is now in counselling for drink related behaviour. He has asked to see dd's new years eve and also we have lots to talk about (we have started marriage guidance) so looks like a quiet night in and to be honest I cant wait for 2010 to be over

4andnotout · 28/12/2010 12:38

Going to a disco with loads of friends, my parents and our dd's, it's in the local social club so it's very family friendly.

FellatioNelson · 28/12/2010 23:53

Going to some friends for a dinner party which may descend into falling overdancing- there will be eight of us I think. We will stay the night. Have done pretty much the same thing for the last 6 or 7 years, but sometimes we do it at my house.

ShowOfHands · 28/12/2010 23:56

It's my 30th birthday. DH will be pounding the streets, herding the the great unwashed and waving his baton about.

I will be home alone, maybe watching Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice and eating pringles. Of course this is assuming 3yr old dd sleeps. If not I'll be playing with lego.

stressheaderic · 29/12/2010 00:01

Staying in, doing nowt special. DD is 10 moths, kind of glad of the excuse not to go out. Stayed in for first time last year as was 7 months pg, and didn't feel I missed out on anything.

Hate hate hate the enforced jollity/maudlin-ness of NYE.

Having said that, 2010's been a cracker for me so will raise a glass.

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 29/12/2010 00:04

Will probably have to be with Mum. I don't mean that as unkindly as it sounds, but I hate NY's even more than Christmas and I much prefer to be in bed asleep. But if I don't spend it with Mum, she'll be on her own and get all morose and 'abandoned' by her children during her 2nd NYE without Dad and last year was a nightmare!!! and my brother won't hive a hoot I don't suppose.

YuleTideD0G · 29/12/2010 00:14

I hate NYE, we have been invited to a party, dc's too but I can't be arsed Blush

Thing is I just know I'll spend the whole evening checking on all the dc's and jiggling a fractious baby. Also it's fancy dress which I hate.

We will probably have a nice dinner. Pop the dc's to bed [boring]. Watch a film, wake the bigger two up just before midnight and set off some fireworks, possibly some of those wanky lantern things with the dc's "hopes" attached in a note.

FellatioNelson · 29/12/2010 00:23

WE try to hate NYE as well. Every year we say we are going to stay in and every year we end up going out. Then we feel like shit all NYD.

ledkrsbellyislikesantas · 29/12/2010 00:37

we usually go out but its well over rated i think. This yr im pg and dh is working till late thn early the next day so plan is,nice buffet and me and dd on the singstar, prob wont even stay up tbh.

mogs0 · 29/12/2010 20:08

eandh - that sounds like a very tough year, I hope the next one is kinder to you!

Showofhands - it's my friends 30th too!

Friend was supposed to be having a party but cancelled it a few of weeks ago. Sad for her as she's not planning to do anything to celebrate her birthday.

I will have ds and 5 childminded children (3 who I haven't met yet) here until 7pm so will be fit for very little for the rest of the evening Grin!

I have invited myself round to above friend's house for a curry after mindees have left but will probably be in bed by 10pm!

Hulababy · 29/12/2010 20:22

I am in Malta with DH and DD, Katz and her family and another friend. We have booked a restaurant for dinner early evening and will then come back to the apartment afterwards, put the girls to bed, and then sit out on the balcony and drink fizz - may even manage a go in the hot tub.

compo · 29/12/2010 20:33

me and a bottle of fizz in one room
dh and his x box in anotyer room Xmas Grin

Blatherskite · 29/12/2010 20:50

Dh and I will do what we've always done on NYE since the DC's were born...we'll stay in, I'll cook something nice and then we'll have a few drinks while watching Jools Holland.

Might even manage to stay up till midnight this year too. We had a 2 week old baby last year and it just wasn't worth it as we were already sleep deprived!

DH usually gets roped into being an unpaid taxi for his parents but they're having a party at their house this year so he is spared that dubious honour. They invited us in full knowledge we'd never be able to go.

NYD - I'm cooking the spare Christmas dinner I stowed in the freezer for if we got snowed in and couldn't make it to my Mum's. Looking forward to it.

FestiveOrganisoid · 29/12/2010 20:53

Going to my friend's house for dinner and drinks. Staying overnight. There will be 10 of us I think, all my best friends together in one place Smile

shinyshoes · 29/12/2010 21:02

nothing I hate NYE and i'm working NYD AND NYE , not late , i'll be home by 6.00pm

All the same i'll be in bed by 10.00 then get the hump because i've been woken up by fireworks and loud cheering Angry

JetLi · 29/12/2010 21:11

I get a bit maudling on NYE. I can't seem to shake it off TBH, despite trying for donkeys years to enjoy it.
Anyway I'm preggers so can't drink & will probably be in bed by 9pm Xmas Blush

muminthecity · 29/12/2010 22:12

DD will be in bed asleep by 8pm at the latest, I will then watch DVDs (one of which has to be Love Actually, it's tradition) and eat nibbly party food alone. I will realise it's midnight when both my phones start ringing and will feel annoyed with well meaning friends and family for interrupting my DVD watching Grin

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 30/12/2010 14:07

Crikey! I didn't realise so many others hated NYE too. Makes me feel less of a weirdo, so thank you!

NewYearNewSolo · 31/12/2010 13:55
DandyDan · 31/12/2010 19:37

There'll be 11 of us on NY Day - a couple of in-laws, a couple of parents, a son's new girlfriend, and several food issues to cope with; but it should be good. Roast beef, apple pie.
