Mulled wine be with port or brandy? what to serve it in?

Title says it all, have been looking up a few mulled wine recipes & some say add port and others brandy. Which tastes nicer?

And what do you serve it in for guests to help themselves from or do you just serve it up from the pan, and are mugs ok to put it in?

Brandy! Xmas Grin

Use thick glass tumblers. The wine should only be warmed. You can leave it on a very low setting on the stive. It won't be long there anywat once they smell it. Xmas Grin

Neither in mine, I use cointreau, plus lots of slices or orange, cinnamon sticks, sachet of herbs which I know is cheating, sugar to taste. Sometimes have added orange juice as well. I warm it up in a huge casserole dish, a slow cooker is also good for keeping it warm. Not mugs, but glass tumblers or wine glasses but don't have it too hot! (Napkins to hold the glasses in are useful if they aren't the kind with handles).

I always add brandy - very potent!

Thank you, knew I could call on the wisdom of MN, especially if alcohol related. Will use slow cooker from the ILs to put mulled wine in to intoxicate ILs - a plan, no?

So brandy or cointreau - nice dilemma!

Have wine glasses and some tumblers & so as long as mulled wine not too hot all will be fine.

Have suddenly acquired 11 family, plus two irritating dogs, on Boxing Day and am hastily adjusting shopping order.
