pressies under the tree?

Hi there I was just wondering what you all do with the pressies that are given directly to your little ones before christmas. Mine have pressies from some of their friends which have been put under the tree and have stayed there and will do until christmas day. The girls have been told they are not to open them until christmas day and they have not questioned that. When I was younger we would put the pressies under the tree and my mum used to tell me the fairies would come and take them to father christmas who would them bring them back on christmas eve.My mum is quite shocked that there are pressies under there which the fairies havent taken away! There is only half a dozen under the tree and dds have not bothered about them.

WE HIDE THEM!!

Mine are only 6, 4 and almost 2 so I don't think they could resist the temptation.

I'm 26 and already peeped at one of mine so I can't blame them Grin

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/12/2010 20:44

We hide them all too.

ja9 · 21/12/2010 20:44

Presents from friends etc and presents from us to family who will be with us on the day are all under the tree. We were planning to put the dc's presents under the tree too as two out of three 'know' and after all Santa does stockings. However dd1 11 asked us not to do this as she so loves seeing all the presents on the day - bless her.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 21/12/2010 21:07

Under the tree, apart from when they were under 2. Now they are 4 and 7 and it all adds to the excitement. They spent ages the other day totting them all up and feeling them. Brings back memories of my sister and I doing the same. All part of the fun.

All the presents under the tree are from us and others. Santa just fills their stocking and leaves one separate big present in the living room. They follow a jelly bean trail to find it. Although have just realised may have a problem with it this year because of cat......

Oldjolyon · 21/12/2010 22:16

DDs are 7 and 4 (just).

At present they have one present from us each under the tree. This is a 'joke' present - heavily wrapped, so they can't accidentally 'peek', but they do get to feel, sniff etc and to make daily guesses as to what it might be.

They also have any other presents they have already been given (currently two each). I just asked them not to open them, and they haven't. I did the same last year when they were 6 and 3. All presents go under the tree in our house. I will bring out the rest on Christmas eve.

CherryTheRedNosedMonster · 22/12/2010 00:52

no presents for my lot go under the tree until after they go to bed christmas eve. only the ones going out of the house go under until then. i currently have a small pile there as doing present exchange with friends tomorrow.

gaelicsheep · 22/12/2010 00:57

Nothing goes under our tree until last thing on Chistmas Eve.

Breezy1985 · 22/12/2010 01:57

Presents from friends go under the tree, they are 5 and 6 and currently have 3 each, I am surprised this year they haven't even touched them yet.

Santa brings their stockings and one 'big' present each and they usually open family presents when they are given them as they like to watch them open them.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 22/12/2010 14:20

LOL thanks to this thread have remembered the stash of pressies from friends squirelled away under the stairs, which I was given before we got the tree.

Have just put them out. Lets see how long it takes them to notice......

BornToFolk · 22/12/2010 14:25

They're all there now. DS is 3 and does not appear bothered by them Hmm. He did ask to open one that a friend brought round but I said no, it goes under the tree until Christmas Day and he put it there and has not asked again, or fiddled with them.
TBH, he's more of a pest with the decorations, keeps fiddling with them and knocking them off.

wfrances · 22/12/2010 15:00

pressies exchanged with others always go under the tree,my family always give each child the pressie with a big kiss and hug and then the child puts it under the tree, even my older ones.

Pheebe · 22/12/2010 15:03

When people give them presents they open them! Cannot imagine any other way. Why would you not let them open them with the giver???? Takes soomething special away of they are just part of the 'pile' that appears on christmas day

ImeldaSnowboots · 22/12/2010 15:04

Ha ha, I could definately not put any presents under tree, DS would never be able to resist. The advent calender with chocs in has to be out of reach, or he'd open all the doors at once. Oh dear, terrible parenting on our part Xmas Blush

SmokinSanta · 22/12/2010 15:08

Mine are in my bedroom with the big stack of presents - no way coule my 2 and 4 yos resist if they were in sight!

They got a couple the other week from some children we do a secret santa with. DS1 said they werent to open them as FC would bring them back Christmas Eve - so thats whats happening!

Sisqinanamook · 22/12/2010 15:08

Presents from friends and family are under the tree, DC are 4 and 17mo, neither have touched any. Main presents from us and santa's sacks are not seen until xmas morning.

BertieBottlesOfMulledWine · 22/12/2010 15:22

In our family we used to put presents from people, presents to each other and parents and presents ready to be given to others under the tree. On Christmas Eve night mum would put out all the presents from her, FC, and the ones from relatives which had arrived in a large box, so it was very exciting to see the small pile multiply in size overnight Grin

I'll probably do the same with DS but we haven't had a tree this year. However we have been to friend's houses who have presents out and he's not been bothered about trying to open them.

TeaOneSugar · 22/12/2010 15:43

Just presents for me, DH, the dog and the neighbours DC under the tree at the moment, plus a couple that came in the post for DD.

DDs presents from us will go under Christmas Eve, my Mother, MIL etc will bring presents with them christmas day.

I've already been told off for squeezing and sniffing my presents - I always assume there's a box from lush but I can't detect anything through the paper. I'm hoping the really heavy box is a pestle and mortar.

LemonDifficult · 22/12/2010 19:42

Nothing under the tree until last minute this year.

This isn't on principle, but PiL's spaniels will tear through paper til they find anything edilble. One year one dog nearly died after consuming a giant chorizo someone had intended for my father-in-law. No one knew what was wrong with the creature, everyone thought it was on it's last legs, until it pooed the silver metal bit from round the end.

Sassyfrassy · 22/12/2010 19:54

We put them under the tree, this is DH's idea. I'm of the school of thought that it's empty under the tree until late christmas eve.

I've been impressed with my two year old's restraint. She did some commando crawling under the tree to start with to look at present but only opened one. It got wrapped up again and she has left them alone since.

neverenoughMEtime · 22/12/2010 20:21

Oh no, we don't put any presents under the tree before christmas eve! Couldn't have DD seeing or touching them all before christmas morning...spoils the suprise i think.

I put everything i buy in bin bags on top of our wardrobes and hang towels over them so DD doesn't have a clue what they are, she doesn't even notice seeing as there is usually a pile of crap on top of them anyway Grin

Then i wrap them all and replace on top of wardrobes. About a week before christmas we tell DD we are sending all the presents off to santa. DH puts the bags in the loft when DD is fast asleep so that just incase DD has twigged that the mountain of towels/bags on the wardrobes are presents, she sees that the space is empty a week before.

Then when DC are asleep on christmas eve we bring them all down out of the loft and arrange them in piles in the lounge. We also keep other peoples presents out of sight too and give/recieve them out of DD's sight so DD hasn't seen a single present at home yet Grin I am aware this will not last as she gets older :)

Cant wait for the big day now :)
