Its easy to believe that most people have a perfect Christmas and its simply not the case for many people. You only have to read the Court File in your local paper a couple of days after to realise that there's usually one murder at least. Curry and a play with new toys sounds like heaven Xmas Smile

FWIW DH is working but not all day and we are pretty much carrying on as normal. I'll still have to cook a lunch as his parents are coming. Also, my Mum worked lots of Christmas Days and we never felt like we were missing out as children.

brimfull · 21/12/2010 21:29

thanks
glad you never felt like you were missing out as a child

Thats not so bad. Have a lovely morning and a nice glass of wine with your meal on boxing day Xmas Smile

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 22/12/2010 08:27

I'm quite fortunate as I work nights so will work christmas even night but get home 8am (ish) watch the ds's open pressies and go to bed for a couple of hours.

Christmas dinner will happen in the evening. I'm off Christmas night but back Boxing night. It's easier now it's just the 4 of us, no pressure.

Curry and TV sounds greatXmas Smile

brimfull · 22/12/2010 09:27

alypaly · 22/12/2010 09:46

DS1 is leaving on xmas day as he has to drive 200miles to go to work at a hosital on boxing day so i am really sad

K12Mom · 22/12/2010 09:48

My DH is working on Xmas Day & Boxing Day, so we are having "Xmas Day" on the 24th.

Santa is making a special trip to us tomorrow night!

Nettee · 22/12/2010 10:31

We are doing stockings and some presents in the morning. Early lunch of christmassy stew. Then i am off to work at 1 ish. Dh and ds and dd will then prepare stuffing etc for our big christmas lunch on boxing day. I think the morning will be quite nice actually as just the four of us.

brimfull · 22/12/2010 10:34

thanks feeling a bit better about it now
Blinks , when do your dc get up , will they be awake when you leave?

OP posts:
ifiweresantaself · 22/12/2010 10:47

I am night shift on christmas so I will be up early with the kids for the presents, prepare dinner then have a nap in the afternoon and have dinner about 5pm. It is also dds birthday so I hate working but someone has to nights is better that 12.5 hr day shift so I am not too bad. I leave at 7pm and the kids are head to bed at 8 so I am only missing out on time alone with dh.

I have refused to do a big family dinner this year so it will be relaxing! Grin

blinks · 22/12/2010 11:20

ggirl... i've thought about waking them up but decided against it. we're going to friend's house in afternoon for lunch etc and want them to be able to stay up a bit later than normal and not be screaming banshees so will let them lie for as long as they want. DJ is on morning duty until i get back so we're thinking stocking's night before then on xmas morning maybe decorate a gingerbread house and play with stocking toys and open pressies after midday when i get home.

blinks · 22/12/2010 11:20

DJ = DH

wfrances · 22/12/2010 11:38

my mum is working 11-5 christmas day in a hospital.my dad is coming to eat with us ,then my sister is picking my mum up and bringing her to my house to have dinner after work .my sister and her df will stay for games ,drinks ect, really looking forward to it.my mum doesnt mind ,im cooking and she still gets to see her children- just later.
my ds 6 was born late xmas eve so i had to spend christmas morning in hospital.the midwives and staff were fab,a very party atmosphere ,everyone had gifts from santa.
my mum works on cdu so everyone there is really poorly so there wont be any parties or dressing up for her.

inkyfingers · 22/12/2010 12:05

anyone working Christmas day deserves a round of applause (either because they are doing life-saving essential work or need the money) hope you get lots of appreciative people and a great atmosphere at work and at home.

brimfull · 22/12/2010 13:37

aww thanks inky
patients definitely do not want to be there on xmas day either and it's only one day

OP posts:
blinks · 22/12/2010 15:34

cheers inky, i'm frontline health care also and i feel more sorry for people unwell on xmas day... we have lots of lovely food/drink and nice atmosphere plus comradeship.

brimfull · 22/12/2010 15:35

have you decided what to do in the morning binks?

OP posts:
monstermissy · 22/12/2010 15:39

Im doing the night shift, start at 5.30pm so i get all day with them and im only doing a few hours. To be honest i think the boys will be glad of some mum free time so they can get on with their computors etc without me trying to make it a 'perfect' xmas and force them to chat and play charades lol

Whelk · 22/12/2010 15:44

Raising a thankful glass to all you stars working on Xmas Day!!

SixtyFootDoll · 22/12/2010 15:51

i am working 7am - 7pm Xmas day Sad am hopig the kids will be up before I leave so I can see them open their presents.
DH and the DCs are going to my Mums for lunch, if we are quiet I am hoping to pop up and see them on my break.

I then have 14 coming to mine boxing day.

I am trying not to think about it too much.

headfairy · 22/12/2010 15:54

I did 7 Christmasses in a row until ds came along so I'm used to having to play catch up. Usually they open only one present each until after lunch, and I always tried to get the early shift so I could dash home and be there at about 3pm. My cousin's wife is working this Christmas day, finishing at 2pm so my cousin is waiting at his house all morning on his own and then going to collect her and bring her back to ours, so we won't be eating until about 5pm. It's getting a bit of a family tradition that we have lunch mega late now.
