we are giving handmade presents this year mostly to encourage the dds to put some thought in to doing something special for someone else. I'm stuck though... what can I make with dd (3yo) for her Daddy that isn't tat or going to be shelved by Boxing Day? She did a drawing yesterday which I have held on to... but what more can I do than frame it? Eeeek... stumbling on my own idea now Grin.

handprint on a mug

jollyoldstnickschick · 19/12/2010 20:22

Our eldest ds covered a malteser box with star wars sticker almost 12 years ago -dh treasures that box as he knows they were ds best stickers.

kiwibella · 19/12/2010 20:22

dd's suggestion was a purse with a flower on it??????????

Some very simple baking? or sweet making?

Buy a paint your own mug or similar. I got some in Wilkos for about £1.

DS(2.3) and I have just put fabric paint hand and footprints on plain white hankies for DH.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 19/12/2010 21:32

I did footprints on a flat canvas with charges last year...each dc (3 here) has a different colour

looked ACE

maclover135 · 19/12/2010 21:32

Brilliant idea for the hankies - thanks BRS Xmas Smile

PurpleKate · 19/12/2010 22:05

Iced homemde biscuits always go down well in my family. DD loves the biscuit making/icing and DH loves the eating!

twirlymum · 19/12/2010 22:23

DS did two handprints in brown paint, which I turned into antlers for a reindeer picture. I stuck a little calendar on the bottom (you can get these in most stationery shops).

frazzled74 · 19/12/2010 23:05

buy canvases and let them paint a picture, original art. you may want to buy the very small canvases though.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/12/2010 23:10

Maybe not that daddy-friendly (but could be) but I got DS (2.10) to embellish some plain trinket boxes with paint, and then sequins, glitter glue, etc. They look rather fab! He loved doing it too. YOu could try a larger box - does your DH use cufflinks or something? YOu can get the blank boxes in Hobbycraft (I got mine in the local post office, which sells a large range of children's craft stuff).

ShanahansRevenge · 19/12/2010 23:18

They coud paint a tshirt for him? Cheap white t shirt and some fabric paint.

iheartdusty · 19/12/2010 23:41

scan the drawing in and get photobox or a similar company to make a mousemat from it

itsstillgood · 20/12/2010 08:40

We made this 4 years ago and dh still has it on his desk. Mug and coaster would make a nice combination.

or Shrink plastic keyring?

Mine are glass painting beer glasses (for dh and fil) and wine glasses for me this year as we have no end of painted plates and mugs.

itsstillgood · 20/12/2010 08:43

If she wants to do a purse, something like this

gillybean2 · 20/12/2010 08:56

Ds has made xmas decorations most year that go on the tree year after year.

Can easily add the name of the recipiant/dad to some of these.

Has made this in the past for grandpa
www.yellowmoon.org.uk/product.asp?pf_id=FG479&ContainerID=10

For grandparents this year he made a tie dye shopping bag, snowflake candle holder which was painted and then glittered, and calanders with the pad things a previous poster mentioned.
The tie dying is great fun and can be extended to t-shirts, hankies, pillow cases, chef apron etc
This kit has quite a lot of pink in it, but you can simply change the colours by getting dylon cold water dye powder to top up bottles for use time and time again.
