How do you hang/display your cards?

Sorry, really boring topic! Smile

Have recently moved house and not sure what to do with them. Last house we were in, there were rather ugly (slatted) bannisters going upstairs from the living room and we blutak'd the cards to them - looked very nice.

This house is dead refined, has staircase in the hall and everything! Grin Living room has mantlepiece (already taken up with candles, German wooden Christmas figures and photos) and no windowsill (arch through into dining room instead). The doors are sort of eggshell so I suppose I could blutak cards to them but not keen.

I used to see those sort of adhesive ribbons in the shops, you pressed the cards to them and they stayed stuck. Hmm Haven't seen them for a while, though. Anyway, shops are a drive through the snow away! I could make my own with some ribbon and glue dots (but would ruin the ribbon for future use).

Any other tips? You can buy all sorts of display stands (again, a trip to shops) but they don't seem to offer much room.

strawberry, thats sounds good but does it not rip paint off?

strawberrycake · 19/12/2010 16:18

Fingers crossed it's ok, on the gloss attached to the top rail (in the join between wall and ceiling). Tiny dot, if it comes to it I'll touch up with gloss.

On the gloss should be okay. I thought you meant the actual wall!

I hang a length of ribbon on the door - staple one end to the top of the door and hang the ribbon over the edge and down the full length of the door. Staple the cards to the ribbon and blue tack the final card at the bottom to the door to stop the whole chain swinging about. I slightly over lap the cards - i.e. put the second one slightly inside the first one. I also angle them slightly at 45 degrees

Does this make sense? You can do two ribbons per door and it leaves no holes (except in the top of the door which you can't see)

In our old house we used to get a small length of red/green ribbon (about 5cm maybe even less?) and staple the first card to this, then staple each card to the one above at the corners so they were sort of hanging at an angle if that makese sense. I then just stapled/stuck the ribbon to the top of the wall and let them hang down. It looks much better than it sounds!!!

I display mine in the recycling bin Blush

Our living roon still needs decorating, so we just blutack them to the wall - we have glittery stars stuck to the walls as christmas decorations anyway. I'm noting down these other idea for if we ever get around to painting in here Smile

MakeMineAGandT - great idea! I might try that if we get any more.

I did find some long lengths of ribbon, made sort of rosettes at the top and have blutak'd them by the rosette to the wall, hanging down between pictures, mirrors etc. Glue dotted cards to the ribbon. Looks ok if a tad 80's

and the first card has just fallen off! Blush

String and little pegs.

Suspended from the hooks where my husband stores his "big sticks for hitting people with".

We've got loads of cards this year, boys are in reception and year 1, so have lots from school - I'm a secondary teacher so I get a fair number as well.

LOL Reshape - part of Christmas is surely re-adjusting the decorations/cards as they fall down?! Xmas Grin

I slot ours over the slats of the venetian blinds.

Strings drawing-pinned to the top of the door-frame and running along the wall in both directions to the ends of the curtain poles (we have windows at both ends of the sitting room). Choice items with vertical folds get to sit on the top of the dresser.
