Im - a toy train or a tram maybe? Grin

Seriously - what kind of train stuff does he have? If it's Brio (the wooden type) then there are loads of different bits and bobs you can get to go with it which he may not have yet.

stereo · 17/12/2010 22:06

Hi MooMoo, thanks for replying. He's got loads of Brio stuff but the trouble is - I don't know what! I was thinking maybe some other train/ tram related present but have no idea what.

How about a dynamo torch? Bought one for 21mo DS's stocking, and have had to put it away until he's older because it's fantastically bright. But would be fab for 5yo.

Or walkie-talkies?

My Dnephews all love(d) playmobil, lego and meccano at this age.

muddleduck · 17/12/2010 23:07

This lego

Desiderata · 17/12/2010 23:09

It has to be Lego.

Expensive, but will last forever.

Boys love Lego. I have to say though, if anyone on the Lego board is listening, that they've missed a trick when it comes to girls.

Why not a big, pink, fuck-off Barbie castle in Lego?

Dumb gits.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 18/12/2010 07:21

Absoltuely, Desidarata. The choices for girls are pitiful.

At 5, my DS got really into Speed Stacks. The starter pack comes with the cups, mat, timer and DVD that shows you how to do it.

IsItMeOr · 18/12/2010 08:28

My nieces have always enjoyed playing with the lego too.

Think the issue might be parents buying too whole-heartedly into the pinkness...

gillybean2 · 18/12/2010 08:32

Not all boys love lego. My ds loved his brio but has never been interested in any lego.

I would suggest a zhuzhu hamster. Until ds got one I wouldn't have considered, but he's thrilled with it. You can get some track/habitat for it too.

isitme - I abhor pink. DD loves it. I am not one of those controlling parents that denies a colour to my child based on my preferences rather than hers. She is a person with her own tastes, after all. She would be a lot more into Lego if there were more available, not only in pink, but in princess castles, houses, people etc.

Runoutofideas · 18/12/2010 09:10

I agree taffeta - although I don't think it is so much the colour as the designs. So many of the lego sets seem to be vehicles - which my 2 dds are just not interested in. I looked at buying them some lego for Christmas, but couldn't see anything which would spark their imagination. Went for playmobil instead, with a vet clinic and a carry around castle thingy.

I bought my 4yr old nephew the elc dino track recently - would that interest your nephew? dino track It seems to have gone into the sale, but may be in stock in a local shop?

IsItMeOr · 18/12/2010 13:52

Sorry, that was a bit of a dig on my part, wasn't it. I just object to the availability of some of the pink toys, because if they're there, people do think they're supposed to buy them iyswim. Plus, I'm probably scarred by having to share a bedroom with DSis who insisted on first having it pink and then peach, and since my DMum agreed with her, I never got to have a blue room until now Wink.

But sounds like Lego need to extend their range to cover a greater variety of interests, whatever colour the individual bricks are.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 18/12/2010 14:08

Thats OK isitme, in the days before DD, when I just had DS, how I snootily looked down my nose at mothers who dressed their daughters in pink, with pink accessories and pink toys.

Then DD came along with very strident views of her own and much humble pie was, and indeed still is, eaten.

Most of our house is decorated in greys, blues and greens, I feel your pain. Xmas Grin

IsItMeOr · 18/12/2010 14:22

Damn, how did you know that I just have DS...Xmas Grin?

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 18/12/2010 14:39

you mentioned neices, so I assumed Xmas Grin

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 18/12/2010 14:41

oh God that sounds awful, I didn't mean "just" like that. I meant, before I had a reason to get involved in pink.

Blardy words on a screen.

TheGoddessBlossom · 18/12/2010 18:08
