I am stumped as to what to get for Dh's parents this year.

In the past have done slippers, clothing, smellies, posh port and cheese etc, last year we just bought them a Debenhams gift card.

I only want a token gift for each of them really as will also be giving them some framed prints of the Dc.

So what are you all getting your parents? Smile

MIL & PIL are getting a photo album of the last holiday we all took together and M&D are getting a home DVD of DD through the year (plus mittens if I can find some for Mum - see other thread..).

Framed prints are lovely - I've done that for DD's great-granny this year.

Callisto · 16/12/2010 18:05

PIL? I mean FIL of course.

IAmReallyFabNow · 16/12/2010 18:07

Theatre tickets.
Wine.
Framed photo of the kids.
DVDs.
Puzzle.
Etc.

Callisto · 16/12/2010 18:09

Sorry, that was a totally unhelpful post. Ideas? How about:

travel/restaurant/pub guide
gloves/hat/scarf combo
lovely brooch (older ladies seem to love them)
single malt
hamper
weather station (FIL has one and LOVES it)
posh socks

mothernature · 16/12/2010 18:14

MIL & FIL getting snoode and balaclava - they were suggested by themselves!!! running out of things to buy them to be honest after 30+ years... Xmas Wink

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 16/12/2010 18:14

FIL/Fathers - gadgets. YY to barometers, weather stuff, ph measuring thingies for garden etc. They adore them, to a man.

MIL/Mother -theatre or garden centre vouchers. Cheap MP3 with some songs uploaded.

Joint - something house-y. Ice cream maker, slow cooker, soup gadget things, coffee set.

purpleturtle · 16/12/2010 18:20

Downton Abbey DVD, and something that can be eaten (not sure what yet)

Hulababy · 16/12/2010 18:22

My parents - Tassimo coffee machine and cofee pods (machine half price at moment)

DH's parents - Canon Ixus digital camea and camera case, plus SD card (again, nicely reduced)

izzybiz · 16/12/2010 18:41

These are all fab ideas thanks! Keep em coming! Grin

i buy seperately for my parents as they have different interests. my mum has a tray of toffee, some clockwork meerkats and a gorgeous bird house with christmas roses on it. my dad has an ivor the engine dvd (long story) and a posh bottle of whisky.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 16/12/2010 20:26

Earrings for my Mum, plus Greenpeace calendar as every year
Amazon voucher for my Dad
Digital Indoor Thermometer for MIL ( requested so she can see when heating needs to go on )
Digital Travel Clock for FIL ( requested again )

shinyshoesandglitterypoos · 16/12/2010 20:28

DM - Nintendo DS
DF - knives, fleece, chocolates, build yourself a grandfather clock kit.
MiL - digital radio and some perfume.

ethelinaTheBloodyGreatXmasElf · 16/12/2010 20:31

Mum - Denby plates (she asked for them)
Dad - Whisky

tbh my family don't really do adult presents. The plates are replacements as she doesn't have enough to cater for Christmas day anymore.

BelligerentYhoULE · 16/12/2010 20:32

PIL - posh cheese, posh cheese biscuits biscuits, fruit cake etc

Mum - cheapo M&S knickers (she asked for these!), nice knickers (because she wouldn't buy them for herself), huge tin of chocolates, something else but don't know what

Dad - history books and whisky

ethelinaTheBloodyGreatXmasElf · 16/12/2010 20:32

Mil - salt and pepper set
Fil - jelly babies and Jamaican rum chocolate

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 16/12/2010 20:34

lol shinyshoes @ DF's present combo. I was thinking he might be Ray Mears until the grandfather clock bit.....

HowAnnoying · 16/12/2010 20:40

mum - laptop (she turns 60 this xmas so a joint b-day pressie)

mil: 2 wedgewood vera wang candlesticks (bday)
and digital photoframe

fil: whisky (as ever!)

randomama · 16/12/2010 20:43

last year we got my parents and DP's mum these
Basically it's lots of prompts for anecdotes about their lives to pass on to their grandkids. they were a huge hit. my dad even bought himself a special pen to fill it out!

wubblybubbly · 16/12/2010 20:57

We've only got my Mum to buy for Sad

DB and I have gone halves on a Sat Nav. I've also got her some nice body cream, some smellies, a photo frame and some chocolates from DS.

randomama I love the look of that book. I've added it to my Amazon basket for next christmas. Thank you.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 16/12/2010 21:21

Both my parents obligingly have Amazon wishlists (dad doesn't really put much on his and it's all obscure stuff that's invariably out of stock. About boats. Hmm). I usually give my mother something knitting-related (trendy-knitting, not frumpy-knitting!). Dad is always hard. This year, they both have something from the wishlists, and my dad has a nice John Lewis cashmere jumper Envy and mum has some Neals Yard smellies and maybe a cross-stitched embroidery scissors holder if I finish it before the baby arrives! I have also got them an electric throw for the sofa as they have no heating. (Acutally, that's TONS, the lucky buggers!)

PIL are a different kettle of fish entirely. MIL doesn't read anything, hates music Hmm and doesn't go a bomb on dvds. She likes marzipan so I always get her some, but it's not much of a present. We generally get her a jumper or some earrings. FIL will get a bottle of whisky.

izzybiz · 16/12/2010 21:25

I think women are much easier to buy for, I could get MIL numerous things, smellies, jewellery, clothes etc.
FIL only really drinks beer so a nice Whisky is out, we have bought him clothes before, never see him wear them!

These are all fantastic ideas, have given me some much needed inspiration!

Clockwork meerkats? Can you tell me more? My 8y Dd is obsessed with meerkats and has been for years. She loves anythign meerkat realted.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 16/12/2010 21:49

Hula - you must be like a pig in poo then. You can't move for meercats at the moment.
DD is obsessed with the baby Sylvanian meercats. Am hoping a grandparent will provide.
