Cooked ham question

Rojak · 15/12/2010 03:34

We are living abroad & I can't find gammon to make a Christmas ham.

The closest I have come is whole cooked hams (like the ones you would make ham sandwiches with)

Can I glaze & bake this, without soaking & boiling? How long would it need to be in the oven for?

Thanks

If it is a 'cooked ham' it is already cooked I would say. Perhaps you could reheat it if you want to eat it hot?

does this help?

I would say yes - they are basically the same thing. Both are cooked (although in different ways) before glazing and baking. I would give it enough time for the glaze to caramelise and heat the ham through, probably about 40mins.

My worry would be that glazing and heating the ham in the oven wouldn't be hot enough for long enough to kill off anything.

I think I would boil it in cider and apple juice with cloves and cinnamon first, then glaze and bake.

Thanks for that link, it sounds like glazing may work, just a bit worried boiling may overcook the ham (can you overcook a cooked ham?)
