Bike present for a 2.5yo

We want to get dd a bike for Christmas but I am not sure what to go for. I like the look and idea of the Like a Bikes but dp wants to go for a more traditional bike with stabilisers. Any thoughts?

Well DS had a teeny bike with stabilisers at 3.5 and we took them off at 3 - depends how quickyl you think he will learn. How coordinated is he?

At 2.5 do you mean? She is pretty coordinated. I think she will learn quickly. I like the Like a Bikes but don't want to spend a fortune if she'll want / need one with wheels in a few months iyswim. Thank you.

We had a like- a-bike - dd2 learnt to ride quicker than dd1 (who didn't). Then we didn't use stablisers when dd2 needed a "proper" bike. It was totally worth it

we have got dd a strider bike! she is 2 years 8 months

We got ds a Likeabike Jumper in the summer when he was 2 1/2 and it is the best thing we have ever bought. I'm hoping he'll be riding on it for a good while yet, at least until he is 4. It looks like so much fun!

biglips no, he got his sisters old bike at 2.5 and when he had just turned 3 he demanded we take the stabilisers off so he could ride around with all the other kids (at GPs caravan site!) and he promptly rode round on it including at least 1/2 mile round the lake with us.

If you think she is confident with her physical skills, get her a proper bike with stabilisers and you can take them off as soon as.

Most of the dcs I know who had a bike with stabilisers took a lot longer to learn to balance without stabilisers than those who had a balance bike first.

Dd had a Puky balance bike and the range of adjustment on the saddle and handle bars was fab, so it lasted for years. As soon as she started on a bike with pedals, she was away first time.

If you do go down the balance bike route, I woud get one with brakes so that they learn how to use them - they can build up quite a speed!
