How long did your DCs believe in Santa?

At the moment Christmas is really special with DCs 5 and 2. Just wondering for how long do they believe Santa really exists.

DD1 stopped believing just before she turned 9
dd2 not yet 9 still believes as does ds1 5 and ds2 1! Xmas Grin
Enjoy

PureAsTheDrivenShow · 08/12/2010 22:36

DD is 3 and has never believed. Enjoy it while they do.

sandyballs · 08/12/2010 22:36

My DDs are nearly 10 and still believe.

fidelma · 08/12/2010 22:43

sandyballs thats fantastic Xmas Grin
Are you sure though?

CherryTheRedNosedMonster · 08/12/2010 23:09

ds1 is nearly 12 and told me a few weeks ago that he knew father christmas wasnt real. ds2 is 9, and the dd's are nearly 6 and nearly 5 and all still believe completely.

mumeeee · 08/12/2010 23:55

Well DD2 and 3 believed until they were 10 and eleven. DD1 believed until she was 7 and a half.

gabid · 09/12/2010 13:11

Oh thanks, it seems we have a few magical years to come!

Is he not real? Xmas Shock

MrsLissie · 09/12/2010 15:08

I just found a great iPhone app that keeps the kids believing for a while - Elf Cam! Really clever, letting you record a video of Santa coming down the chimney in your home, and lots of cute Elf videos and updates, as well. wetnosedesign.com/elfcam

dockate · 09/12/2010 15:57

DS (7) asked me straight out the other day "Mummy is FC real?". "Yes, Darling", I said, to which he replied "I KNEW it! Toby at school says it's your Mummy and Daddy who put all the presents in your stocking but that just makes no sense at all because they'd need about a thousand pounds to fill ALL the children's stockings AND they wouldn't be so excited and surprised when you open everything and Toby doesn't know ANYTHING. He always talks nonsense..." etc etc

So no extra convincing needed from me, and DD (3 this weekend) is of course still a total believer.

fidelma · 09/12/2010 21:52

dockate I love his response. When this first came up for me I said "do you really think Mummy and Daddy would get you all that stuff?"This kept dd1 believing for a good bit longer!

squashedfly · 10/12/2010 14:08

I have 5 DC from 17 to 1 and in our house 'if you don't believe you don't get' and everyone knows I take it ridiculously seriously. I am absolutely meticulous about keeping it going because I think it is such a lovely, lovely thing - I cannot bear it when stupid smug children at school would come in and say well of course its not real - so pleased with themselves that now it is spoilt for them then they can take great delight in spoiling it for everyone else. Grrr.
I will never admit it to any of my children at least until the youngest is 18! If ever! Although DH is adamant that the eldest stop getting a santa delivery when they turn 18 which I am gutted about. Still got a whole year to negotiate tho!!

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 10/12/2010 14:12

thats lovely squashedfly. Xmas Grin

GrimmaTheNome · 10/12/2010 14:15

I guess DD really believed it up to 4; beginning to be a bit skeptical at 5 but decided on balance she wanted to believe in FC (though by that age she had already decided she didn't believe in God so all the Baby Jesus stuff was fable)

By 6 she didn't believe it - but was happy to play along and wouldn't dream of spilling the beans to her friends.

She still absolutely loves xmas, knowing its pretend doesn't spoil the magic at all if you don't let it.

gillybean2 · 10/12/2010 16:29

Ds is 11 (12 in january). Thought he had realised this year with a couple of commenst he's made and also the RE homework he had last week all about St Nicholas.
But on the way home from school today he was all excited talking about how our hamster would be lucky enough to see Santa and how he nearly caught him once himself when he heard a noise in the chimney and how exciting it all is.

Done all the usual things to keep it going this long (letters from Santa, the personalised weblink thing last year etc etc). It's much more fun this way Xmas Smile

panettoinydog · 10/12/2010 16:41

dd2 told me she still beliecved at age 10 and so I ruined her life when I blithely said that there was no santa that year.

Only wusses believe at age 10, I told her.

She shot me daggers.

Pollyanna · 10/12/2010 16:47

gilly, my ds is also 12 in January and still believes! I am relieved he isn't the only one - I was getting a bit worried. I am not sure my dd1 (age 10) still believes though!

the others aged 7,5, and 2 still believe.

CherryTheRedNosedMonster · 10/12/2010 18:19

ds2 (9) made me laugh the other day! on the way home from school he turned round and said "mum, sam said that father christmas isnt real, but he's silly because if he doesnt believe, he wont get any presents".

gillybean2 · 12/12/2010 06:04

Just done the PNP. That and the letter from santa last year helped dispel the rumours from school Xmas Grin

Furball · 12/12/2010 06:25

My ds aged 9 believes. He is a young one in the year so everyone else is or has turned 10 and loads have older siblings, so it won't be long.

He sent a letter this year but wouldn't go and see him at at christmas fair - I wondered if it was because he's heard rumours?

I love it though - it's sooooo magical. I know some might say it's not the true meaning of christmas etc etc, but it is very very special. Xmas Smile
