Any recommendations for board games for my DS who is almost 7. Thank you.

How about guess who extra, uno and connect 4 .. none of which are really board games strictly speaking but are all quite good!

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 01/12/2010 20:38

My DS, just 7, likes Monopoly, chess, Jenga and have got him Uno for Christmas.

Hulababy · 01/12/2010 20:40

Monopoly Junior
Cluedo Junior
Pop to the Shops
Lego Shave a Sheep
Travel the World (ELC)

domesticsluttery · 01/12/2010 20:41

DS2 is 6 and has asked for Walk the Plank
DS1 is 8 and has asked for Tutan Lootem

ninjanurse · 01/12/2010 20:54

My 5 yr old DS and 7 yr old DD like Junior monopoly, junior scrabble and pictureka.

iheartdusty · 01/12/2010 21:06

can I suggest you skip Cluedo Junior - it is much more complicated than the adult version, leaves me and the DC confused every time.

On recommendations from MN I have asked family to get Blokus and Carcassonne for nearly 7 y/o DS, and Bananagrams is coming as well, I think.

iloveblue · 01/12/2010 22:06

I've bought Monopoly Junior for my 6 yr old DS - its currently half price in Argos (£6.49), and has great reviews.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 01/12/2010 22:13

How does Monopoly Junior vary from the normal version?

iloveblue · 02/12/2010 07:55

From what i can tell it is much simpler and quicker - has a fairgroud theme. The money is in £1 notes I think.

LIZS · 02/12/2010 07:56

Cadoo/Cranium Junior

Hulababy · 02/12/2010 08:27

Monopoly Jr is based around a funfair ad players buy the rides rather than houses. The money demoniations are lower, making the maths easier. The game is simpler too and therefore lasts a much shorter period of time. It is always popular here.

Hulababy · 02/12/2010 08:28

iheartdusty - really? DD and her friends really enjoy it. We have found it quite simple to play.

richarda · 02/12/2010 12:39

Lots of Orchard games might hit the spot.

What about Rush Hour by Thinkfun?

Brainbox quiz games, Djeco have some great card games as do Gameloft.

streptococcus · 02/12/2010 12:43

kerplunk
toys r us do lots of matching pairs type card games ( star wars etc)

Runoutofideas · 02/12/2010 12:48

My nearly 6 year old loves Zoo Am I? Was very cheap from tesco and involves them asking questions to work out which animal is stuck in their headband...

LIZS · 02/12/2010 15:27

Also Ravensburger's Labyrinth. They do different versions including a Disney one and it is good introduction to strategic thinking type games.

iheartdusty · 02/12/2010 18:43

ah well hulababy, obviously some sharp minds at work in your house Smile

Takver · 02/12/2010 19:19

Rush hour is good, but more a puzzle than a board game.

Ravensburger do lots of good board games for that age group. DD liked Cat and Mouse and Rivers Roads and Rails (which is a lot more fun and less 'educational' than their blurb makes out :) )

twolittledarlings · 02/12/2010 22:11

My 2 dd are nearly 7 and 9 and they play a lot of board games together. They enjoy

Pictureka
Pink Monopoly
Party, Party
Stairs and Ladders ( Time Table game like snakes and ladders)
Pop to the shops

Other games - not board games
Kerpluk
Battleships
Piranha Panic
Shave the Sheep - Lego
Magnetix
Guess Who
Catch me if you canJolly Octopus
Magic Tooth Fairy
Don't wake Dad
Huff Puff
Jenga
Brain Box - Maths
Brain Box - Around the World

Rubbish ones are:
Mousetrap
Ratotouille
Elefun

I try to encourage them to play more together ratehr than watch DVD, TV etc and they do enjoy playing together.

This year have got more games to play together:

Lego Minotaurus
Lego - Happy Potter Hogwarts
Guess Who Extra
Chaos
Smart Ass
