Is it possible to put too much brandy on a cake?

I made mine about 4 weeks ago and have been annointing it weekly since and it seems a big waterlogged. Should I hold off for a few weeks or just keeping adding regardless?

I only add few teaspoons at a time.

thanks for reminding me - need to do mine!
I'd hold off for a bit on yours - especially if you are going to ice it.

the more the better Grin Grin

no....same advice as oybk......good luck!

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 30/11/2010 15:43

impossible - you have to put so much on that it soaks into the cake and you can sit around it like a fire on christmas day.

and if people don't fall asleep, you've not put in enough Grin

Can I have some please Grin

you need to keep an eye on it because i know three people who overfed their cakes and when they came to marzipan and ice it, it had gone mouldy from being too moist......so i wouldn't feed it any more if i were you.

ClaireDeLoon · 30/11/2010 19:20

ooh really? should I unwrap it slightly to allow it too dry a little do you think?

I'd perhaps take it out for an airing every now and again, but then you might run the risk of it going 'stale' instead of drying out.

If you DO think you've overfed it (but I bet you haven't) why not 'ice' it with more dried and glace fruits and a sticky brandy glaze and tie a ribbon around the middle?

ClaireDeLoon · 30/11/2010 19:50

'take it out for an airing' I have visions of taking it for a walk around the garden to get some fresh air Grin

I will do as you say, I have unwrapped it for now and left it in the kitchen for a few hours then wrap it back up and not put any more brandy on it.

But it must must must have icing on it. Hopefully it will be OK come marzipanning time.

Have never had this happen before. Maybe I added more than a few teaspoons looking at the bottle.

I was going to ask the exact same question.

I stuck holes in it yesterday with a knitting needle then used one of the kids medicine syringes the chemist gives me to squirt brandy into the holes. :o Works very well indeed.

Now it looks a bit soggy. Confused

This is my first time since I didn't it till recently so made DH buy himself a crappy Value slab from Tesco as he was the only one to eat it.

If I have ballsed it up he will be gutted. He is so excited.

...didn't like it until recently... Hmm
