He I have an 8yr old an almost 3 yr old and a 15 month old. Where can I take them to see Santa which will keep them all happy and not cost a fortune?

We took our DCs on a spur of the moment visit to the Father Christmas at our Dobbies garden centre (we went to the Paisley one, but I'm sure they all have grottos) last Christmas eve. He was an elederly man and made it veyr magical and traditional (and even told the DCs not to sneak into our bed or to eat too many sweets before Christmas lunch!). He was the total opposite to the expensive nightmare that was our trip to the House of Fraser grotto earlier in the month.

My suggestion would be to avoid M&Ds at all costs! New Lanark also have some nice grottos.

Enjoy :)

We have booked the christmas experience at new Lanark but with the snow not looking like we'll make it....Heard Dobbies was great at Christmas..

We're going sledging with Santa at Snozone at braehead! Grin Grin Don't know if your 15mo will be old enough but sure they would love the experience of it all - seeing santa on real snow, getting a pressie etc. Only £7 for 30 mins - see Santa, get present and sledging!!

i have also heard great things about new lanark, but have a think about pollok park. they do dray rides with the clydesdale 'reindeer' and have mrs claus in one of the rooms upstairs. i only paid for my three year old last year but we got the baby into the photo with her. oh, and the present is a book so not terrible plastic shite.

NotFromConcentrate · 29/11/2010 22:31

Thanks AitchTwoOh, Pollok park isn't too far from me so I will look into it :)

Maybee New Lanark is £8.50 each, or a family ticket (4 people) is £30.

Maybee · 29/11/2010 22:34

Thanks I'm just wondering about buggies and things though at New Lanark as I am likely to be on my own with my 3. I like Pollok park and it seems like an easy venue. Would it be manageable by myself with the boys do you think Aitch?

i think the technical term is easy-peasy lemon-squeezy, maybee. Wink

go early because they don't sell on the phone or online and they book the times in half-hour slots so that the queue isn't too long at any one time. then go off and do the teddy bear hunt round the rest of the house. last year i gave them a call first to check they hadn't sold out because i have been there when all the slots are filled and it is fairly horrendous seeing the disappointed faces (although fortunately the faces belonged not to my kids, haw haw).

there is a buggy park downstairs, and the cafe etc. and upstairs all teh rooms are decorated in suitably christmassy fashion, and nice ladies let you post christmas wishes to santa etc etc and buy reindeer food for rudolph. i really highly recommend it.

We always went to a Dobbies in teh edinburgh area when the dds were young but one year we went to a dobbies near glasgow.

You could spot the weegieness. Sexy santa elves in short furry dresses for starters.

The Glasshouse in Queens Park has a Santa close to Christmas. You get a colouring book and a bag of sweets - and it is free!!

frasersmummy · 01/12/2010 19:06

we've done a few in the Glasgow area..

The last few years we have gone to see Santa on the snow at Xscape. Its a bit different to the norm.

You get to trudge up a snowy hill (staff will help youngsters) and meet santa in his cabin at the top. The pressie tends to be just a very small goody bag.

But we like the fact its reasonable price, seems more realistic cos its on the snow and you can take your own pictures. Saving you a fortune in professional pictures

We've done Debenhams the last few years, the only pic on my profile is DD with the Debenhams Santa. It's the same Santa every year and he's lovely. It's also free IIRC.
