Aghh think I have burnt my christmas cake

The top looks rather dark and the bits of fruit at the top definitely have a burnt look about them, that will teach me to try and do too many things at once and forget to check on it....

Do you think I can keep it, feed it and then when I come to cover in marzipan and ice it cut a layer off the top, or should I cut a layer off the top now?

well have sliced the burnt top off and it looks really nice underneath which is gutting, the main prob still is that the outside edge is also burnt quite hard and crisp, don't know whether to just leave it and when it is covered with marzipan and icing it won't matter or try to cut that off too but could end up destroying what I do have......

think for now i will just douse in booze and wrap up in the tin and think about what to do with the edge....Sad

i've done the same thing today :(

i tried cutting the burnt bits off (side and bottom) and it just crumbled. so, i'm going to eat it in the next couple of weeks.

luckily dh doesn't like christmas cake, and kids are too young to appreciate anyway. my mum has promised me a slab of hers!

i blame ours on our rubbish, old oven :)

hope you manage to rescue yours.

slosh over liberal dose of brandy and wrap. will be fine with mrzipan and icing.

will be fine when slightly pissed though.

Burned my cake to a crisp a couple of years ago. Husband actually fished it out of the bin where I'd thrown it in a strop (fortunately still wrapped in brown paper), we sawed off all the burnt bits, fed it liberally with booze for a month and when it was covered in marzipan and icing it looked and tasted fine!

Well we tucked into the aforementioned cake today and it was fine, could have been a little more moist if I am being picky but everyone said it was great...!!!!
