Tesco Christmas delivery slots

VJay · 27/11/2010 15:55

I had a leaflet saying that the Christmas delivery slots will be available to book at the end of November. Now they book up really fast and last year the kind delivery man told me exactly which day, at midnight, they opened, and I booked at 3am (sad I know but I was up bf ds), and they had all gone by 4am!!!!
I forgot to ask the delivery man this week and wondered if anyone knows what day they become available to book.

Done mine yesterday and yes I had to complete the order and checkout before the 2 hour mark.

They don't take the payment until day of delivery though.

trumpton · 27/11/2010 17:43

Put one thing into your basket and check out in normal way. That way you pay for the one item and the delivery charge....nearer the time you go back into your basket and put the rest of your shopping in your basket and CHECKOUT AGAIN. Last bit V important ( once I got distracted and forgot to confirm and checkout and had a phone call asking if I was sure all I wanted was a bag of apples !....They cancelled the order for me Grin)By the way we only have Tescos and M&S here to do decent shop with and our Tesco are brilliant, I tell you, brilliant.

SuePurblybiltByElves · 27/11/2010 17:44

My calendar only goes up to the 17th
Surely I can book the slot, do a tiny shop and keep adding to it until the day before?

SuePurblybiltByElves · 27/11/2010 17:45

xposted . That's my plan then.

Saltire · 27/11/2010 17:50

I logged on yesterday and discovered I could book for Christmas week, so ahve booked for 22nd - giving 2 days for DH to fight the crowds if need be.
Then this morning I got an email telling me I am a valued customer and can get early access to their delviery slots.
I logged in today to book slot for next week too and all the 23rd and half the 22nd dates are already goneHmm

VJay · 27/11/2010 17:51

This really doesn't sound very fair Hmm

How come my slots are only offered until the 17th then if other without the email have calendars going to the 23rd? Is Devon shutting down on the 17th? (more than possible) Grin

pissedrightoff · 27/11/2010 17:57

Vjay I think it is fair enough TBH, I rely on online shopping (rural area, don't drive) for these reasons my shops are weekly and Christmas week will be no exception.

Weegle · 27/11/2010 17:59

oh yes forgot to say that I just put one item in my basket for each 'slot' then checked out - I'll do the actual lists nearer the time.

So it seems to be frequency with which you shop rather than value?

VJay · 27/11/2010 17:59

But I DO shop every week online!

Phew I got an email yesterday saying slots were available but I only just went on about an hour ago and there was one slot left on 23rd which I nabbed. Nothing on 24th and only two left on 22nd.

Have ordered turkey and ham from elsewhere though so even if they stuff up I hopefully wont be too buggered.

pissedrightoff · 27/11/2010 18:01

That's odd that you have had no email then.
Is your Tesco account against another email address than the one you use most IYKWIM?

VJay · 27/11/2010 18:03

No normal email address used. I did shop somewhere else 2 weeks ago, but this was a one off, surely they won't hold that against me HmmGrin

When they say they will be released on Mon does that mean right up to Xmas eve, I'm sure they normally release one day at a time?

strandedatseasonsgreetings · 27/11/2010 20:42

That's me buggered then.

We are moving back to the UK and flying in on the 20th Dec. I wasn't sure whether there would be joints of meat left but people on another thread were suggesting doing an online order - which I thought I could do, to be delivered one evening between 20th and 25th. I now realise I am living in cloud cuckoo land - I've shopped at a UK supermarket about three times in the last 16 months. I'm hardly going to be anyone's priority cuctomer.

Hmmmm. Back to the drawing board. I am so dreading doing ALL our food shopping - not just for Christmas - on 20th Dec......

IAPJJLPJ · 28/11/2010 09:03

I order online every week and i haven't had an email. Am feeling VERY hard done by!!!

gingernutlover · 28/11/2010 09:26

i havent had an email either and I shop every week with tesco online

am pretty pissed off that they are offering some people slots but I have to wait til tomorrow - am guessing its the people who spend more than me - greedy money grabbing tesco wouldnt want to lose their higher spending customers but i can take my £60 a week elsewhere eh Hmm

ditavonteesed · 28/11/2010 09:29

got mine for 23rd this morning.

gingernutlover · 28/11/2010 09:32

so are you a big spender dita?

gingernutlover · 28/11/2010 09:35

sorry to be nosey, just wondering how they decide who is allowed a slot early?

Saltire · 28/11/2010 09:43

I am not a big spender with them, usually between £55-70 a week.

ditavonteesed · 28/11/2010 11:47

same as saltire here, not seen an email though, just went to do shopping this morning and thought I would see if they were up yet.
