Grin that made you click .

This is a true quandry.

Every December 1st ive always given my 3 ds a christmas pen and pencil to 'start' christmas and make them feel Christmassy .....howver my feelings were hurt last year when ds1 aged 16 spoke to his Dad on the quiet and said ......what sort of t*at am I gonna look sat in my As level lectures with a bloody wobbly head reindeer pen and a santa pencil with eraser topper .......so his pencil sat ignored Sad.

This year I only have 2 sets to buy although I fear ds2 will soon follow suit as he asked me not to sew reindeer emblems on his gloves this year.

Pmsl at reindeer emblems. You have me up to the reindeer emblems.

ItalianLady · 27/11/2010 12:55

Lots of traditions stop when a child becomes older. Start a new theme, maybe take the kids shopping to buy new pens/pencils of their own choice?

dracschick · 27/11/2010 12:56

Hes 17 he has no stationary interest.

What is wrong with reindeer emblems?? they are particularly natty as they have bells that jingle on them Grin.

pmsl Grin thanks.

ChippyMinton · 27/11/2010 13:00

Suggest that the DSs start giving you pressies instead - xmas jumper, matching gloves scarf and bobble hat, light up earrings or hairbobbles maybe?

dracschick · 27/11/2010 13:02

Chippy I already have them Grin truly I do in fact my neighbour borrowed my Xmas cardi for work last year and won 1st prize.

Reindeer emblems?

Are they children or mobile Christmas trees?

dracschick · 27/11/2010 13:07

Oh no they are definitely children ......

OP posts:
ChippyMinton · 27/11/2010 13:07

It is a sad fact of life that children will veer sharply in the opposite direction from their parents' enthusiasms once they are old enough. My DC don't even believe in FC anymore and the oldest is only 9.

dracschick · 27/11/2010 13:08

Dont believe????? bjesus mine dare not disbelief ......lmao

I even have reindeer knickers.

obviously a reindeer print, antlers can be a bit scratchy.

ChippyMinton · 27/11/2010 13:13

Mine will come to their senses on xmas eve and go through the motions of hanging stocking, leaving carrot for reindeer etc ... otherwise i will have to return all the gifts.

It's my fault though - i left all the gifts spread out on my bed for wrapping. They smelled a rat when I explained that santa would be collecting them once i'd wrapped them for him.

Now, these knickers, are they furry?

Guitargirl · 27/11/2010 13:17

Ah - bless you - this thread has made me smile Smile.

dracschick · 27/11/2010 14:26

no my furry ones went dodgy in the wash ........reindeer fur washed at 60 degrees in biological powder shrinks terribly..........

I explain the gifts away by saying that santa sends them one gift the rest bought by us are sent to Santa where he checks the naughty/nice lists to decide whether they are deserving or not.

Venison sausage rol???? Sad thats like eating prancers best friend - how could you?Grin.

Grin

Mine are still young/foolish enough to wear the elf hats I insist on.

According to my mother, DCs who question the existance of Santa will get nothing. Not from him or anyone else.Hmm Mine have decided it is not worth the risk to voice any doubts.

dracschick · 27/11/2010 15:09

I have an elf hat too the dog also has a reindeer suit but hes now refusing to even try it on Sad ithink ds1s resistance is affecting the dog.

OP posts:
FoundWanting · 27/11/2010 16:01

I really, really want to dress the cat up as an elf. However, after the debacle that was Hallowe'en, I don't think I can. (I got the cape on and then spent half an hour trying to coax the 'vampire cat' down from the curtain rail.)

Some members of this household just don't enter into the proper spirit of the thing. Sad

dracschick · 27/11/2010 17:27

perhaps you could glue some antlers on her whilst shes asleep??......halloween was a flop here too the dog wouldnt keep his glow in the dark fangs in.

pointydog · 27/11/2010 17:32

lol

He's 16. Couldn't you at least get him a cool pen or arty pencil for a young adult? It doesn't have to be a novelty kiddy one, there are about a thousand other types, you know.

pointydog · 27/11/2010 17:33

This is a joke thread, right? Am I being slow?

dracschick · 27/11/2010 17:34

No hes 17 and I tried the cool pen approach already.

first dead xmas tradition in the household Sad ...Grin.

Dexterrocks · 27/11/2010 18:48

Dracschick, you have made my night.
I can see it is sad to see an old tradition slide but you can replace it with a new one that suits the age group.
How about downloading a tacky Christmas tune onto their ipods/mp3s on Dec 1st to get them in the spirit?
Or making something Christmassy to bring in advent - teenagers surely don't grow out of food? Don't they eat three times as much instead?
You have to acknowledge that they are not wee kids anymore but that doesn't mean you can't have a laugh together anymore.

mumeeee · 27/11/2010 19:42

My 18 year old still likes opening the advent calendar. It's one with pockets in so I put presents that she would like in the pockets, Sily socks, mimiture bubble bath ,chocalate,50p piece, In fact when DD2 comes home she enjoys joining i and wil share with her sister for the last 2 weeks before Christmas, She will be 21 on the 9th December. Why don't you give your DS a more adult pen and pencil or something else he would like,

dracschick · 27/11/2010 19:48

My post started as a bit of a joke Grin ds1 has seen some of the replies and has begged me not to buy sparkly bubble bath again .....and he already has his dairy milk advent calender set for December the first and eagerly awaits his christmas pjs on xmas eve Grin.

OP posts:
Guitargirl · 29/11/2010 20:53

When I was 18 I remember drinking wine on the beach with my best mate on Christmas Eve wearing antlers...not sure why am sharing that but just to say that maybe it's time he started making his own traditions with his mates!
