"Every year I have to wrap everyone's presents to our children because they get them sent directly from Amazon/wherever and can't be arsed wrapping them themselves."

Do you think:

a) yes me too, but you have to suck this one up, I'm afraid.

b) what an ungrateful baggage, you should be thankful anyone wants to send your scabby kids anything at all.

c) It's hardly a chore: get a grip.

d) that is outrageous, and thoughtless to boot. You must say something forthwith.

maktaitai · 24/11/2010 22:18

d), sort of, except milder feelings about it.

What about putting all the unwrapped presents in a sack/under a rug and letting the children pull them out one by one?

llareggub · 24/11/2010 22:18

No. I think:

e) so I'm not the only one to use Amazon to cover up that I've completely forgotten to buy a present.

SuePurblybiltByElves · 24/11/2010 22:20

a. It's starting to grate a little as it feels as if they can't be arsed. Mostly Ex's family doing it so from now on he can wrap them Grin.

Not worth upsetting someone over it but I think a bit annoying.

Portofino · 24/11/2010 22:20

I order all dnephews presents from Amazon! Every year! My dsis would rather I spent a few extra quid on the present itself than the online wrapping and is happy to do it. I am abroad though....

Rockbird · 24/11/2010 22:21

I would prefer that to the shitty 'wrapping' that Amazon charge a fortune for. Navy plain paper with a yellow ribbon and Amazon logo. Very festive.

UniS · 24/11/2010 22:23

Doesn't bother me, at least that way I know whats in the parcels. AND know that child can unwrap said parcel with out aid of knife or scissors.

DHs family must have shares in selotape, they use sooo much of the stuff .

I do amazon orders to the living abroad part of teh family, so they have to wrap in return.

booyhoo · 24/11/2010 22:23

e) don't wrap them. just put tehm in teh roofspace til xmas eve then put them out with the santa toys so your kids love you lots and lots.

Personally, I vacillate between all 4 responses Grin depending on who I'm thinking of.

I cannot be the only one on MN to utterly loathe wrapping other people's presents for ds (thereby saving them the £ and the bother) yet not really know what to think about this new Christmas irritation.

I would like to say, right now, to anyone who does this as a matter of course: if you stuck some wrapping paper and a handwritten tag in the post to make up for the fact that someone else is picking up your slack, I'm sure it would really, really be appreciated.

Merrylegs · 24/11/2010 22:25

Why do they have to be wrapped? Surely the parcel is addressed to your child, so let them open it as it comes. What's the problem?

Unprune · 24/11/2010 22:26

AH go on, Merrylegs, you don't put Amazon boxes under the tree, do you? Shock

nannynobnobs · 24/11/2010 22:27

My auntie sent a lovely Dr Who rug from Amazon a few years ago; it came in a navy blue sack tied up with green ribbon and looked very nice under the tree, like a proper present from Santa :)

SuePurblybiltByElves · 24/11/2010 22:29

Good points made, at least I can control the wrapping if I do it.

Merrylegs stop, you don't let your children open Christmas gifts the minute they plop through the door?

Hassled · 24/11/2010 22:31

DB sends lots of beautifully pre-wrapped Amazon gifts. They do seem to favour green wrapping, I've observed.

On the odd occasion he's forgotten to tick the box, I've wrapped myself and bitterly resented it. Wrapping someone else's present sucks. In fact wrapping any present sucks - I can't really wrap. It looks like the work of a 6 year old.

everybodysgotone · 24/11/2010 22:31

e) they probably either couldn't afford the present and extra postage, or didn't have time to get to post office - so in that case I'd just be grateful they'd sent anything at all.

Merrylegs · 24/11/2010 22:31

Yes because they are not from Santa are they? They are from aunty/uncle/godparent. And surely they only make up a fraction of the presents anyway. Do people really undo the boxes and wrap the presents?! Blimey.

DiscoDaisy · 24/11/2010 22:35

I'd just put them under the tree in the addressed packaging that they arrived in!

snice · 24/11/2010 22:36

I would think
f)Thank God this year DMIL has done this rather than turning up at the door on the 23rd Dec with two £20 notes and the suggestion that 'I could go and buy something for them' beause obviously i've got nothing else on at the moment

SuePurblybiltByElves · 24/11/2010 22:37

But you wrap them, put on a label saying "to dd from Aunty Toolazytowrap" and put under the tree for Christmas day surely?

Your postman must be nervous this time of year Grin

Ragwort · 24/11/2010 22:40

Am I the only person who loves wrapping presents - just volunteered to do all the gifts for Father Christmas to give at our local nursery - and I don't even have a child there Grin - must get a life !

Unprune · 24/11/2010 22:42

I cannot believe people wouldn't wrap their little kids' presents from grandparents, but I have at least found a solution with which to torture my parents out of their laziness Grin

"It's great, Tesco Delivery can wrap anything far better than I can...thanks for saving me that particularly annoying modern chore! Luv ya, bye!"

OP posts:
Merrylegs · 24/11/2010 22:44

My kids love the parcels under the tree because getting a parcel through the post is really exciting. Kids don't get many letters. And because they know Aunty Toolazytowrap always sends good presents so it's extra exciting to see it sitting there. (Or maybe they just think Amazon is Santa's return address.) Seriously, don't wrap the presents.

frazzled74 · 24/11/2010 22:44

f)more thoughtful than sending money! would just put the parcel under the tree, stick some sparkly bows on it if you want to!
