Soooo, if I wanted some hastily-painted glass birds to hang from my oh-so-tasteful tree, I could choose six for

£12.99 from amazon

£15 from cox and cox

or

wait for it

£24.95 from pedlars

Hmmmmmmm, let me think. Hmm

I particularly love the way the pedlars birds look faintly embarrassed to be there. Grin

Sue, someone's already beaten you on the stone idea.

Sorry Sad

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 25/11/2010 10:26

Oh I think this might be the best Pedlars thread yet Grin

Bumpsadaisie · 25/11/2010 10:42

"The point is that we only sell stuff that we love, stuff that we have tested and that works. There is no grey area of product at Pedlars? nothing that is simply okay. It?s either great and we sell it, or it?s not
and we don?t. End of story." Confused

ROFL and howl Grin.

I think they need to have an image change soon though. It's all too profligate for these austere times - they need to get with the new zeitgeist! The faux-rag tag "Pedlars" brand is already ripe for this sort of image shift.

May I suggest -

"We are Caroline and Charlie Gladstone - we know what it is like to struggle financially, we've got six sets of school fees and an estate in Scotland to finance. We spent our gap year in India and saw poor people peddling goods. Hard times. But you can be confident we use our experiences at the coal face to help us source fantastic products that will brighten up your space while being easy on the pocket. Either it's thrifty or it's not - no grey areas at Pedlars".

God better do some work before I wet myself.

Unprune · 25/11/2010 10:44

Yes, a roll of packing tape and 4 red tealights for £12.95 is clearly 'simply great' Grin They are such charlatans!

madamimadam · 25/11/2010 10:47

On reflection, do you think that's actually Jamie's Magic Torch?

Bumpsadaisie · 25/11/2010 10:53

Here is Charlie describing his feelings on encountering a game of "Pick a Stick". It's quite moving to hear about Charlie's childhood and how he had so few toys to play with. Life must have been tough as the son of a baronet living at Hawarden Castle, and at life at Eton and Oxford must've been bloody hard.

Think he needs to find a synonym for the verb "to love" though - a little overused I think you will agree.

"Recently we came across a game called Jack Straws which had been reintroduced to the market after a break of 30 years or something. We saw it a trade fair and my heart missed a beat because when I was young I had it and I loved it; in fact that should be LOVED it. There was just something lovely about it, about those beautiful little pieces, about the box. And, of course, I loved playing it with my parents and siblings. It was just all-round-brilliant. And then I completely forgot about it for, well, probably over thirty years; but when I saw it this year a truly powerful surge of emotion and love for it washed over me. This is nostalgia at its fiercest; it isn't sentimentality, as such, or I don't think it is. It's just that there are some possessions that we have when we are children that live in our minds forever (I'm not going to linger on whether these emotions are made more powerful by the fact that I had much less stuff when I was little than our children -most children- have now).

Unprune · 25/11/2010 11:00

I actually feel quite sad for him.

Unprune · 25/11/2010 11:00

Not really!

AitchTwoOh · 25/11/2010 11:03

lol at cave-dwelling neanderthals.

MrsChemist · 25/11/2010 11:08

I'll take cave-dwelling Neanderthal over more money than sense any day.

Besides, cave dwelling is organic, low carbon footprint living. I bet Pedlars loves that shit.

Unprune · 25/11/2010 11:10

The Neanderthals died out, though. Presumably for want of a vintage spanner.

AitchTwoOh · 25/11/2010 11:10

HAW

SuePurblybiltByElves · 25/11/2010 11:12

I need to find the link to the tartan cube with medals and a tail. That was truly the best thing ever.

AbsofCroissant · 25/11/2010 11:12

Okay, I love many things, coffee, DP, my DNs, cheese ... but I really don't think I can muster up that much emotion for a box of sticks. That you pick up. And I too played it as a child. Maybe I was doing it wrong?

Maybe I am just a cave dwelling neanderthal Sad

AbsofCroissant · 25/11/2010 11:17

I wonder what their justification would be for the giant spanner (as the silver crate was "an alternative fruit bowl")? "that's not a giant spanner, it's an alternative home protection device, you non-organic street sweepers".

Anyways, by way of clarification these are some giant spanners

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 25/11/2010 11:22

Tartan cube with the tail

Tikitikitembo · 25/11/2010 11:23

WTF that thing is scary Shock

AitchTwoOh · 25/11/2010 11:32

oh look, it's in the sale.

siblingrivalry · 25/11/2010 11:34

ROFL @ tartan cube Grin
WTF?!

AbsofCroissant · 25/11/2010 11:34

Only £200!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 25/11/2010 11:35

Mmmm, at that price I think I shall buy two! Now, who to give them to for Christmas...

Tikitikitembo · 25/11/2010 11:40

Looks like someone dropped it on a fox from a great height Confused

happystory · 25/11/2010 11:42

Is there a link to the thread when Caro burst in?!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 25/11/2010 11:45

Good. Lord.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 25/11/2010 11:46

Apparently the Caro invasion thread got deleted, to the great detriment of future generations of Mumsnetters.
