I've drawn a blank asking DP who would leave it until Christmas Eve to realise that he must get them something.

What are you getting your in-laws? They are both 70 and he likes golf and she likes embroidery/arty things. They both like walking.

Not related to anything you mentioned but I ordered my mum a diary from photo box, each week has a different picture of ds on it.

Walking socks!!!

Mine are each getting a pocket towel thing that is small but v absorbent to use when walking, birdwatching or away in the caravan, plus cd for FIL and new book for MIL. They both have birthdays in December too Hmm so am getting MIL a new silver chain for her birthday and FIL a voucher to spend in the art shop. Agree they are v hard to buy for and were the last presents I sorted out this year.

reddaisy · 23/11/2010 21:44

The last ones you bought Abgirl? Are you all finished? Wow! They are difficult to buy for because they live 3 hours away so we don't see them enough to know what they have and what they would want.

Thank you for all the suggestions, there are some good ideas there.

English Heritage or National Trust Membership?

thereistheball · 24/11/2010 10:33

We're doing a voucher for a posh hotel group that has properties near where they live, so they can go out for a walk then have a wonderful afternoon tea.

I have in laws of similar age and interest. Do they have a computer and if so, would they be interested in a webcam to help keep in touch? Failing that, we've gone with a few interesting books and a puzzle of our DCs!

FIL is getting RHS membership (which MIL will benefit from too as they both get into the gardens free). MIL is getting a Charlotte Watson butter box, and a photobook of the dcs.

reddaisy, it's the earliest I've ever finished, partially becuase I was inspired after reading that getting all the present shopping done by the end of November was Nigella's top tip for a stress free Christmas, but mainly because we are having a new kitchen delivered on 1st December and we'll be too busy installing it from then on to be trawling round the shops. Am definitely happier with what I've bought people this year as I feel like I've had a bit more time to look around and think about what they'd really like.

Hampers - make your own with shop bought items. You could put a good pub food guide book in there.

Afternoon tea vouchers?

My mum and partner are in their 70's but they are mad and full of energy - do something every weekend. Love food, theatre, books, walking, cruising, holidays etc so its not too bad.

I'm getting them a combined voucher of afternoon tea at a posh restaurant, buscuits, chocolate, makeup for mum, smellies.
