I have both sides of the family here for dinner on Christmas Day and would love to give them a small 'surprise' before/during/after dinner. There is going to be 15 of us ranging in age from 21 months to 70 years old. Any ideas please???

Stick a piece of paper on the underside of everyone's chair, everyone can look at everyone else's except their own. Letters make up a Christmas anagram. Whoever guesses first wins a prize. You could also have prizes for the most number of smaller words you can get out of the big word, iyswim.

We each have a "table present" at my mums- something for under a fiver, a jokey present or game. The little chocolate based games went down well, joke books, magic tricks, etc.

Tesco sell crackers with racing sprouts insideGrin.

We used those whistlke things last year, I have blackmail video of my sober brother playing jingle bells. Apaprt from that it was excrutiating.

I have just bought a pack of crackers from Aldi with wind up penguins in and a race mat to have a penguin race while I dish up.

I think there is a fine line between fun and embarrassment. My family will have a laugh about most things but I know the PIL and BIL would find anything that puts them on show really difficult. I think something aimed towards the children might work best?

Stick a label with the name of a famous person on everyones forehead. People then take turns to ask questions with a yes / no answer to guess who they are.

Semtex stuffing.

Leslaki · 20/11/2010 20:51

you can get giant crackers with party bits for 6 in them which the kids love - we get one every xmas eve. You could get a couple and let the oldest and youngest pull them. tescos do the racing sprout game crackers which I'm hoping will be good - they got a good write up in mum's good housekeeping mag. Other than that the secret santa sounds good - or get everyone to write a dare down ona piece of paper and put in a Xmas gift bag, then everyone has to pull one out and do it. gets as risque as the guest Grin

Aldi had some "racing Penguin" crackers today - was thinking of getting some for when DD has friends round for tea just before Christmas. You can also get crackers which contain numbered bells or whistles, and someone is conductor and you play a tune. Really crap quality and sounds awful but SOOOO much fun!

lilolilmanchester · 21/11/2010 00:13

oops, sorry, see the bells have already been mentioned. Will put "read the thread before responding" on my New Years resolution list. Again.

Crap pass the parcel plus some indoor fireworks it is then! Thanks for all the ideas Grin
