My plan this year is to do absolutely zero shopping on foot. It will all be accomplished from the comfort of my sofa. I've had a fewer catalogues etc in the post than normal, but have quite liked:

Hawkin's Bazaar for the plastic tat, although I think I'm going for quality over quantity in stockings this year
Firebox for oddities like glow in the dark loo roll
NotOnTheHighStreet has got some nice jewellery bits - although they should maybe be discredited for having a Keep Calm and Carry On clock.

Who else is out there? Can anyone recommend anyone?

Good idea Hassled!

Bright minds for kids stuff
Cox and Cox for nice housey things
Cath Kidston for nice PJs and slippers
Rocketheads for science toys

I am rather boring and got virtually everything on Amazon! Saved a heap of money though. I just searched names of what people like to see what comes up - like a mini cooper Tshirt, me to you bear blanket etc.

Got a few bits on the book people obviously.

Also browsed the ELC site for ideas as I had vouchers, but I wasn't spending enough to get free delivery so I just wrote it down and was able to do the on-foot shopping very quickly.

Ooo I like Bright Minds lots - thanks both.

I always look on Bright Minds and Curious Minds and then find the stuff loads cheaper on ebay!

Last year, there was a stellarscope thingummy that dp wanted, £30 and I got it for £1.04 on ebay!

Getting Personal is a really nice website for 'different' gifts - calendars/diarys etc that can be personalised with people's names etc. All their 'personalised' gifts are lovely, and always go down well. Have used them a number of times and am always really impressed with them.

2 presents down thanks to Getting Personal - SIL and her DH are getting a 400 piece jigsaw of their postcode/map :o. They have no hobbies or friends - it'll while away the lonely evenings.

How about www.kidestore.co.uk - try to stock a range of interesting toys that aren't usually found on the high street.

Could I shout out for some of the charity sites?
Barnardos, RNLI and RSPB have some interesting items.

Bbq1 · 26/08/2024 02:41

Love this!

WhenWillWanksWildly · 26/08/2024 09:43

Might be best starting the thread over @gardenmusic as some of the shops mentioned are no longer trading since 2010!

gardenmusic · 26/08/2024 11:09

Eh?

Hour ago I was in the RNLI shop at the seafront - sale, just checked website, up and running
Just checked Barnardo's on line Lovely william Morris scarf in a box reduced to £6 up and running
Rspb on line working fine (never seen a shop)
Why do you think they are not open for business?

WhenWillWanksWildly · 26/08/2024 16:55

You opened a thread from 2010 to post to. A lot of the shops on it are now closed down.

gardenmusic · 26/08/2024 17:36

WhenWillWanksWildly, ah, I get you now. Thanks.
I'm dotting the charities about on various Christmas threads, so hopefully some will get business.
