My sister and family are moving to the USA after xmas. No point getting the children toys I guess as they won't be able to bring much with them. But of course I want to get them something special - we have my sis and bil as well as neices 12 and 6 and nephew 3. We're all feeling a bit Sad about them going so wanted to throw myself into pressie buying to take my mind off it.

Do you have their address in the USA? If you do, you can go to toys r us.com, amazon.com, vouchers, etc. and order the gifts over there so you can avoid international delivery charges.

I think it would be lovely to come home to find something waiting for them.

Now, if you want to get them something before they go, video games to put in the DS or things like that are a blessing (they keep the children busy in the plane and use virtually no space)

Amazon voucher they can spend when they get there? Or order them something for when they arrive?

where abouts in usa are they going? anywhere near any theme parks or anything like that where you could but them tickets? you could spend time researching stuff on net to take your mind off. or if budget stretches to a cheap laptop or computer camera for them if they already have a computer so they can download skype & you can keep in touch. or maybe arrange a hamper of their fave foods etc & send it surface mail(cheaper) & they'll get nice surprise when they least expect it.

when we moved o'seas one january everyone just got us the normal presents ans we posted them to our new address in the new year as all of our removals had already been shipped. it was quite cool as the dcs got christmas twice, effectively Grin

would sis like some of the union jack cushions that seem to be ubiquitous? a little something to remind her of 'home'? pic/ painting of a special place from where she was brought up? (we move all over the world and i have some pictures of my home town on the walls) and i do have a huge union jack rug... which i wouldn't have in the uk lol.

the children might like some us dollars in a card to send when they get there? that way they can buy themselves something nice in case their shipping hasn't arrived

my kids don't seem to be pining for anything english - the niece who is 6 might like an 'american girl' doll though. dd2 is 7 and is desperate for a 'maple lea girl' doll which seems to be the canadian equivalent. i like them because they aren't pink barbie-esque etc. the maple lea girls come from different canadian provinces, not sure if the us ones come from diff states, but it might be cool to get her one that 'matches' where they are heading to if they do... Grin

my friend emigrated to oz this year - last christmas i bought her and i matching photo albums, and a book 'a year of mornings, 3191 miles apart' and suggested that in 2010 we took pictures all year and gave each other the album for the following christmas... so she's in oz and i'm in canada, and our families are going through huge changes - it seemed a nice way to keep in touch with what has been happening - the stuff we can't see, at least once a year?

My friends went off to florida last year and we did a photo calendar from calendarwizard.co.uk to remind them of all the good times over the last couple of years - went down a treat. They are great quality ones - we even frame some of the photos - good offers on now. Will fit in suitcase nicely!
