Is being veggie easier at Christmas?

I've read loads of threads in past years about Christmas meals. Getting up at six to put turkey in oven, making sausages rolled in bacon (why?), stuffing, potatoes in goose fat....

We have nut roast, potatoes and veg. There is nothing complicated about it. I don't spend all day in the kitchen. We have it every Sunday.

Are there meat eaters out there who just have the usual sunday roast? Do people put loads of pressure on themselves with the idea of making the ultimate Christmas dinner? Perhaps i'm just a lazy veggie!

Like many, many other veggies I know, I always just have everything except the meat!! Easy peasy and I do this for bog standard Sunday roasts too.

So...Roast tats, swede, cauli/broccoli, sprouts, yorkshires, stuffing etc. etc. Loads of gravy. Who needs more? Yum!

Thanks for the recipes, everyone. Yum!

Just out of interest, if you do use a meat substitute and have young children (DD's 2 years, 5 months), what do you call it? DP encourages her to eat her "meat", but I don't like this as a) it's not meat b) I don't approve of meat and c) I don't want her going to other people's houses, school dinners etc thinking it's ok if she eats the meat!

Am I missing a trick? Is there an obvious word to use?? Thanks. :)

tankfly - I always call it the protein. Have explained why protein is important in a diet.

taffeta - you could do an individual toad in the hole for her with veggie sausages and herbs.

Made the mistake one year of only cooking what we were going to eat for our veggie xmas dinner. Come supper time I had to russtle up another meal. Now I overdo the roast potatoes, nut roast etc and we have leftovers in the evening :)

But yes, always ready when I say it will be and never takes too long.

I eat meat and I've never had to get up at 6am to cook dinner, though I don't tend to cook whole turkeys.

I find the sides more work than the turkey/chicken/ham/roast beef etc,as once it's in the oven there's very little to be done with it,other than pour over the juices occasionally.

Pour the juices over it I should say,and even that doesn't need to be done very often.

That said the vegetables are still my favourite part of the meal.

Tankfly - great link to the veggie site. I've never seen that site before. It looks great. Loving the recipes too.
