What age for stockings/advent calendars?

What's the mn verdict on this?

My DD will be 3.6 and we aren't doing either - she's not really aware of all these things yet. Also don't want lots of little things around as we have DS 1.4. We aren't having our big tree either because of this, we will get DD a little tree to put in her bedroom and probably leave a couple of smaller presents under there.

I might leave it a couple more years until they're both old enough? Might get one of those wooden advent calendars with drawers instead of chocolate ones.

So what's the right age do you think?

3.5 was first yr DS really got christmas - was magical.

Went to see FC (can be free - post on here 4 ideas where you live)

Walk in the dark looking at xmas trees.

twinkly lights inhouse mesmerising at that age.

  • carols, paperchains, making star biscuits.

Standard stocking fare - choc coins £1, Choc Santa £1. Christmas decoration £1 (anything very sparkly will do, even something you;ve already got that she hasn't seen), small inexpensive toy or book (can be secondhand) & something you would buy anyway (character pants were popular at that age) instead of buying a new stocking you could use a small pillowcase tied with tinsel and perhaps decorate together.

Most importantly we do LOTs of family time, walk in the woods looking for reindeer, watching a film together with treats and really really stress the time spent together is DH's and my favourite tthing about xmas.

It doesn't have to get expensive. Lots of people on here go OTT with christmas eve hampers, new everything etc (not that that's wrong either) but

I love Christmas for the change of pace, the change in atmosphere and just being with the family and 3.5 is the PERFECT age for that!!!

Thanks all. I talked to DH and we've agreed to do the stockings. Some of the small presents we already bought will go in them and then a couple of essentials like new funky toothbrushes, flannels etc. Seen a couple of widgets for their wooden train set as well :)

DH works for Boots so the staff discount will help :o

Anyway I bought a 3 foot tree and decorations today and am now feeling uber christmassy!
