Just that really, haven't done a stocking before as it was just never on my mind, but this year want to do DS a stocking.

Budget isn't the best this year so was after some small cheap stocking filler ideas

Getting some things you would get anyway ie toothbrush, new pants/socks with interesting designs is something people quite often do. I find that small cars are always popular with DS (nearly 7). Little rubbers/pens/pencils? Satsuma at the end. Chocolate coins. Marbles.

I try and look out for any little things on sale and get them while I see them but inevitably forget where I have put them Blush Grin.

I've been buying toy story socks/pens/colouring things on ebay for DS also 5

cheap cars, bubbles or bubble bath, wind up toys from £1 shop, small jigsaw puzzle or magnetic game - or some of the cheap party bag fillers - you can usually get a mixed bag full of stuff in wilkinsons for a few £

mine get a new flannel and toothbrush each year too!

plus a couple of bits of fruit and a couple of packs of sweets

keyring, character flannel (that expands on impact with water! Tesco do them), bath toy, magazine (Thomas, etc), model animal (like Schleich but cheaper version)?

Mine (14 & 5) get a small wrapped toy (small lego or bionicle box), book/colouring book, and a Terrys Choc orange.
Family traditional twist on the orange theme!

christmas comic of a character he likes - quite cheap, will often have a separate toy or two on the front and if you are lucky they will want to read it, colour it in etc before waking you up Grin if it doesn't have crayons with it, you can get cheap sets from the supermarket essential ranges - and altho' it is probably a bit late now, mid october is a great time for stocking up on cheap stationery stuff as they want to get rid of all their 'back to school/uni' stuff ready for halloween and xmas.

if he has a favourite character you can often pick up kids dvds for £2-3 but looks like an exciting present to have. also have a look on places like play.com in their toy sections just by price and see what the cheap things are as they will be post free, just need to intercept the postman!

comic and dvd are great as they can take up plenty of space in the stocking.

other thing to remember is the size of the stocking when you get it - if you want it as something to open on christmas morning you don't want it to be huge so you have to spend a fortune stuffing it with stuff but you also need it to be big enough to put a few things in so it isn't a let down (and a pain to find toys small enough!)

for small cheap tat treats... hawkins bazaar

great for little bits that kids love and we couldn't care less about

just pay postage goody bags - not sure how good they are but saw a link for them on MN a while ago and tonight just remembered I never did get around to ordering them so just going to.

they basically say you pay £3.35 or £4.50 postage per bag for the kids ones - and then they are supposed to be full of lots of different things, pictures of 'typical contents' include colouring books, little books, dvd, little cuddly toy etc

for £3.50 might be worth a punt to see what you get, looks like lots of it would be suitable for stocking or for bits to wrap up and fill up under the tree...

the more expensive one was also available from the Daily Telegraph and is also branded as that on here, so would have thought the company is reasonably reliable (altho' as I said I am guessing, really don't know!)

My DS was so impressed with a football rubber, little notebook and this kind of push-up pencil he can have more like it in his stocking.

I bought DS a kaleidoscope last year and he loved it. My local toyshop also had some very small ones with a crystal in the end
