hi,

DDs nursery have sent home a tin for us to decorate and fill....with anything. Then it will go on a stall at the Xmas do.

Any ideas for what to put in it?

i'm thinking...

a shedload of stickers?
a supply of bikkits?
boiled sweets?
seeds - a variety for spring planting?

whaddya reckon?

how big is it?

you could plant bulbs in it, in pebbles or compost

hairclips and bands

stationery bits (paperclips, post-it notes, stapler)

UniS · 10/11/2010 20:47

stickers.

What kind of tin? We talking biscuit tin or baked bean tin?

Is the xmas do for children or are the items in it supposed to appeal to the adults? My guess would be kiddies.

So yes a few sweets, stickers, balloons, streamers and blower type toys. And small things like gogo's. If its bigger maybe some bubble bath, crayons. That type of thing.

treat it like a party bag (but don't try to insert a book unless it is the biscuit tin size) Smile

it is a tall tin like a tea or coffee tin, but plastic.

it is see through - so yes, indoor bulbs (hyacinth) in soil & pebbles could look pretty and be interesting for the receivers kid to watch grow..

stickers always have hours of usage, but we have all been issued with a yellowmoon catalogue too, which sells excellent stickers, so i reckon most of the parents will be stickered to the gills.

i had thought of these which are on 3 for 2 at Tescos but they leave little LEDs when the balloon pops which are swallowable.

i like the bulb idea more now...with nice decorations...

cookie baking kit - measure out flour sugar etc, pop in cutters or fairy cake mix with paper cases, sprinkles, plus a recipe

taffetacat · 11/11/2010 19:37

craft stuff - plastic scissors, little pritt stick, tissue paper, googly eyes, lolly sticks, glitter, mini jewels

Those light up balloons? Exactly like boobs. We bought the pink ones for DD's birthday one year - they reminded me so much of engorges BF boobs with huge nips that I was alternatively wincing and snorting throughout the day.

But how disapointed will the child be who gets the tin without any stickers in it!?

You must put a few in :)

GrimmaTheNome · 12/11/2010 08:22

DDs school used to do something like this - what people usually did was a mix of odds and ends :

Novelty rubbers
sweets (the instructions always said not choc for some reason)
bouncy balls
small toys
mini pack crayons/pencils

...and stickers

If the kids get to choose their jar then you can put in hair bobbles etc but if its a random thing (tombola style) then no gender-specific stuff obv.

The bulb or cooking stuff sounds like a nice idea to grownups but I suspect kids would think it wierd and be horribly disappointed not to have a mix of stuff to ferret around in.

EdgarAirbombPoe · 12/11/2010 17:44

suepurplybit that must be why DS loves them...

grimma i think you're probably right. when i was 3, i very much doubt watching a flower grow would float my boat, and not getting ANY sweets would be terrible!

Polonium

Okay how to make really lovely bath salts:

(1) Buy coarse rock salt
(2) Add five drops of lavender oil
(3) Add five drops of tea tree oil
(4) Seal and shake.

No really that's it.
