IM SO CONFUSED!!!!

Right. My DS is 4 and is obsessed with racing cars (particularly Formula 1) and when asked what he wants for xmas, he simply says (the same thing everytime) a racing car game.

What do I get him? A DSi? Or is there something else out there ive not seen?
Ive scoured the internet and if I look again, i swear i will burst into flames.

What I dont want to happen is me to buy something cheap and its rubbish or buy a dsi, him not be able to do it and spend his time whinging, though he is quite techie so i think thats not really an issue, oh my goodness, please help Confused

Scalectrix?? (sorry, can't spell it!)

storminabuttercup · 10/11/2010 11:11

I'd go with the f1 scalectrix. My dad is buying ds (ten weeks) one. But I feel this is more for him and my dp at this age. But they can grow up with them, play it with dad, and then keep it for his own children. :-)

thisiswhataluv · 10/11/2010 11:12

i bought something for my son a few year back it was a seat with steering wheel and pedals etc , iirc it was formula 1, it used to plug into the tv and he could "drive"....
i have searched online but couldnt find another like it ....

MrsSawyer · 10/11/2010 11:35

Thanks for your replies. I had thought a scalectrix but id read bad reviews on the f1 one, cars getting stuck, track on very good etc so thought about a computer type thing, but Thisis, thats exactly what im after, exactly that!

Im off out now but will carry on trying to search when i get back.

Hot wheel tracks are good for his age

storminabuttercup · 10/11/2010 11:40

How about a wii then? Mario cart may fit the bill then some of the more advanced racing games as he gets older?

MrsSawyer · 10/11/2010 11:42

I did think about a wii, but the expense put me off, all the extra added bits, plus the dsi is portable so can take on long car journeys etc.

Appreciate your help though

I've bought DS a "my first scalectrix", meant to be easier to use.

iloveblue · 10/11/2010 12:56

My DD is desperate for a DS but we're worried she may be too young for some of the games, so we're getting her a VTech handheld game - John Lewis do them if you have their catalogue - no idea what games they do though, just suitable for her age (also 4)

nickelbangBANGbang · 10/11/2010 13:23

if you get the bog-standard scalextric, it won'tr be crap.

have a look on their website
www.scalextric.com/ for the full range.

I think it's a fab idea.

nickelbangBANGbang · 10/11/2010 13:24

oh golly! they've got a toy story one! Shock

MrsSawyer · 10/11/2010 13:26

LillianGish · 10/11/2010 20:05

Got to be Scalextric - and you can all join in! Great present.

asdx2 · 10/11/2010 20:06

What about this?

IfYouCouldWouldYou · 10/11/2010 20:11

I was just searching on ebay and came across this. I can also recommend it personally
I completely forgot about it until now.

This

My older brother had one but it amused both me and my younger brother also for many years. So much so it was then passed on to my DC's until it packed up.

It also has realistic engine/horn sounds and is great for all ages.

MrsSawyer · 10/11/2010 20:23

Wow, some great ideas on here, i will definitely look into them, thank you so much.

How about this? Will encourage him to run off some energy; ds has the motorbike rider one and loves it. Grin
