Ds has been interested in these for a while but I wondered if they are any good and if so which are better? Ds will be nearly 6 come Christmas and is art mad! Also, blendy pens ... are they any good?

how old is your ds? I was just looking at your first message about shaker maker type kits, sewing etc. I hadnt considered sewing tbh.

He has just turned 7, but has always been into arts and crafts. I save boxes and cereal packets and tubes and all sorts and he has a mass making session every so often!

These are great.

This is what DS has, but also does cross-stitch on plain aida.

my ds is the same .. I keep every pot and box going ... and my mother regularly turns up to see us with bags of the stuff!

The Range looks great - the nearest one to me is a bit of a trek but I think it might be worth a look. It is his sixth birthday in February so I may get a whole load of things together. He would like that as much as anything else!

Its worth the trek. They do masses of art and craft stuff. But nothing is advertised on the website so don't go by that! Take a trip!

that net Price direct web site looks good as well - Ive never seen it before. They have the blo pens .. I was going to get them from the entertainer but maybe I can do an order from them.

Oooo, it does look good.

Only used it for the link! Didn't really look at what else was on there!

bodiddly · 08/11/2010 21:42

lol ... just noticed there is a 3.95 delivery charge though which is a bummer. I hate paying for delivery!

  • Gets bored easily
  • Wants my attention constantly
  • Can't sit still for 5 minutes
  • Chats shite non-stop
  • Constantly says "Look mum look mum look mum"!!
bodiddly · 08/11/2010 21:56

and his current favourite "but I want to do something with yoouuuuu"
he is also going through a jigsaw puzzle and a beast quest book stage at the moment!

My DS is only happy if he has something battery operated in his hands, or if it runs off the mains Hmm

Although he has just started to take a big interest in cooking since I invested in a Magimix! He wants to 'blitz' everything!

He is also getting quite good at chores - yay!

bodiddly · 08/11/2010 22:07

yes mine quite likes cleaning ... he wipes the bannister and handrail on the staircase with baby wipes lol. He has also said he wants to do some cooking "on his own" having watched Jamie's 30 minute meals .. not sure that would be a good idea though!

Have you given your ds baking parchment as tracing paper? Ds spends hours with a sheet of it and a "how to draw" book tracing things.

OP posts:
ThighsWideShut · 08/11/2010 22:16

No, haven't thought about doing that. Will remember that for next time. It's something I spent hours doing as a child!

bodiddly · 08/11/2010 22:40

I am after a magimix at the moment but a very small budget so it may have to wait. Not sure how good the cheapies are!

Well, I am a first year student at uni, so whilst all my fellow student mates were peeing their loans and grants up the wall, I was out buying kitchen gadgets at £200 a pop Blush BUT I can justify it.... I spend a few hours a week making cheese straws, cakes, flapjacks, bread etc for lunchboxes (ok, so it hasn't paid for itself yet, but hey) and that has saved me a fair bit in Tescos!

It has also made cooking so much easier. It is massive so just sits on my worktop, and I use it to cut/slice/blitz everything!!

If you can save up for one, I would recommend! Just don't let your DS get the idea in his head that a magimix would make light work of a Toy Story figurine. Woody keeps being threatened with the large blade Confused

bodiddly · 09/11/2010 14:34

Wow that is impressive. There is no way I couldve been that disciplined when at uni. I was perpetually broke! Am also impressed by the baking. You are making me feel positively guilty!!!! Perhaps if I invest in a cheap cheap food mixer I can turn into a slightly more domestic semi-goddess!
