So when do you do the food shop?

Just that really. It's the first year that we will be having most of the festive period at home and I don't know when to do the food shop. I don't want to do it too early because chances are it will go out of date but I don't want to leave it too late as everything will be sold out out!

Any pearls of wisdom please?

Now that's what I like to see - some proper early planning!

Probably Weds 22nd for the last big shop, with extras as needed from the local supermarket.

Already booked a Waitrose Deliver slot for 22 Dec. Then any items missing and last minute extras I go early on 23rd. Fruit and veg van deliver on 23rd too. Freeze milk and bread so its super fresh for when you need it.

DH gets the turkey on his way home on 23rd, there are always loads to choose from and sometimes, sometimes, they reduce them if you leave it late.

I do mine a bit at a time, and my mum does the same, and eventually it all comes together and we have enough of what we need lol.

I asked this the other week and had some great replies, ive actually been out this morning to get all the goodies, will be getting all non perishable's 1st week in december, tins, foil, flour, sugar, tea, frozen food, alcohol and juice, fridge and veggies will be getting on the 23rd.
i had a home delivery booked with asda last year for the 23rd, over half of it was either not available or substituted...never again.

I get an online Tesco delivery on 22nd Dec, the get last bits on 23rd / 24th. Love having a last minute nose around the supermarket on Xmas Eve

Probably get most things about the 23rd and then do a 6am run to Marks and Spencers on the 24th to get all the lovely (albeit completely unnecessary) nibbles etc.

Ocado will deliver all my lovely things on Christmas Eve (already done the shop :))

We do it at the same point every year - at the last moment, in panic.

What I need is a chest freezer, so I can order teh lot in September and avoid all supermarkets till BST kicks in again.

I was organised last year, and got a Tesco delivery for 23rd. It had snowed VERY slightly. Tesco rang up and cancelled the delivery that morning due to "health and safety risks"!!! The roads were clear! They also reshelved all the things that had been collected for delivery, so I couldn't even go and collect the bags myself. Was not happy. Never again will i take that risk.

Last year we went to m&s on the 23rd never again it was heaving and we were waiting in line for over a hour :(

I do mine a bit at a time. Any jars, sweets, wine etc, and freezer stuff I buy well in advance. Also buy any bulkier stuff like loo roll and breakfast cerials early. Cheeses I buy the week befor. I do smaller shops in the days leading up to 25th. for the fresh stuff. Veg and stuff which will keep first, and then I send DH out early on Christmas eve to collect the meat order and the fruit and salad stuff. I always buy extra part baked rolls and some boxed milk just in case we run out.
