Is Tinsel naff?

I wanted to buy some tinsel today. John Lewis have something called 'mini tinsel' online but it's out of stock. They had none instore either. I then noticed that none of their decorated trees had tinsel. I am being terribly naff wanting tinsel?

I like tinsel but only on the tree. Helps with the twinkle - I'm all about the twinkle

I concur. You need to get a bit of tinsel frondy movement to achieve a proper twinkly tree. But not the double stranded stuff, or the tinsel that is as thick as an anaconda and only really should be used in nursing homes and mental health wards.

Ah well there's tinsel and there's tinsel, IMO.

Thinnish tinsel, silver only, draped around the inner branches of the tree adds a depth that nothing else achieves. Together with white tree lights, nothing matches its glorious sparkle amongst the fir branches.

LOL @ Grimma and crepe paper. I consider myself to have very good taste ( don't we all?! )and found myself in a pound shop today buying dark green crepe paper. Answers on a postcard as to what I will do with it please.

h yes, you are absolutely right about a tinsel adding depth. So tastefully corrrect.

Gloriusly naff! Indulge the naffness.

GrungeBlobPrimpants · 03/11/2010 14:59

'Tis the season to be gloriously naff

I stick mine on top of the dresser, round a rather large vase and anything else that takes my fancy. Particularly if it winds up DH, who is a closet Utter Ponce in the Christmas deccie department

I like tinsel, but don't use it as my cat tends to eat it!
Go ahead and stick on your tree!

Oooohh good point Kara

We have a cat for the first time this year - will have to make sure its well wrapped round the inner trunk, no tempting dangly bits. He's actually still a kitten, 8 months, is he likely to paw at the decorations?

< think I know the answer :( >
