Tell me honestly is my list for 6yo DD a bit mean?

To put it in context she had a DS last year and got a bike for her birthday in the summer so she does normally get a 'big' thing. This Christmas there is going to be no big present, I have to stick to my budget and for DD that's £70/80 for all her presents.

She's just asked if she can have the Sylvanian families windmill - the massive one which is about £70. I want to get her it but can't really justify it with all the other presents she's getting. But I wonder if I am being mean?

DS (2) will have about £50 spent on him in total and I'm happy with his haul.

DD's list:
Barbie fashion fairytale doll
Mini baby dolls from ELC
Books
Annual
Disney DVDs
DS game
For her stocking, choc coins, bedside clock, pens etc, little craft set, hair bobbles, mini toiletries.

What's the verdict??

Oh and DS's list is:

Happyland fire station and emergency vehicles
Charlie and Lola books
DVD
Annual

For his stocking, chocolate coins, toothbrush/facecloth, colouring book and crayons, little cars, playdoh.

Sounds just right to me......will she receive any money from relatives over Christmas?

My DS tends to get the "big" present from money put together from relatives.

if she really, really, really wants the windmuill then why don't you get that and nothing else?

don't suppose it was in the sainsbutys half price sale was it?

WowOoo · 02/11/2010 14:25

Sounds fine to me. Am sticking to similar budget myself.

bigchris · 02/11/2010 14:26

I'd get her the windmill and the stocking and nothing else

PaisleyLeaf · 02/11/2010 14:26

What's ebay like for secondhand windmills in place of some of the other stuff.

I think the list is fine btw - just suggesting.

MollysChambers · 02/11/2010 14:27

Unless you already have the other things then I'd get her the windmill and stocking and nothing else. If the windmill needs accessories they'd go in the stocking.

doggiesayswoof · 02/11/2010 14:27

Thanks scurry

Prob not, she does tend to get toys from relatives - they always ask what she would like and they do enjoy getting her something to unwrap rather than money (I think that may change as she gets older).

it's only £59 delivered at amazon

frogetyfrog · 02/11/2010 14:27

Another vote here for the windmill and stocking and nothing else. Thats what my dds get - a stocking full of bits and pieces and one big present (some years depending on how flush we are - some years they do without the big present).

The DS game, annual etc seem like stocking fillers to me ...? But I agree with your budget of around £70.

doggiesayswoof · 02/11/2010 14:30

Wow thanks all

Hmmm - see that's the annoying thing.

She said there was nothing she really wanted except the Barbie, so I went out and bought everything on the list - then she asked for the windmill (which is fantastic, I'd quite like it myself).

Maybe I could take everything else back to the shops?

The windmill was in the 50% off Sainsbo's sale but they were sold out by the time I got there.

Could grandparents or aunties/uncles take some of the other things off your hands to give to her?

doggiesayswoof · 02/11/2010 14:32

She changes her mind constantly!

£59 is good - that's cheaper than yesterday's amazon price.

Mollys - that is a genius idea!!

What MollysChambers said - and then get it from Amazon - a good way to keep to your own budget and your DD has more than one pressie to open.

MNTotoro · 02/11/2010 14:36

Definitely get the relatives to give her what you have already bought (as you know she wanted them) and give her the windmill :)

frogetyfrog · 02/11/2010 14:40

Oops. Didnt know youd already bought the presents. If the relatives wont take them and you cant take them back, then your list sounds more than adequate and I am sure will be loved on the day.

I would warn dd that the windmill wont be coming though.

doggiesayswoof · 02/11/2010 16:59

Yay - have emailed grandparents and will do gift handover at weekend - job done.

Hope DD sticks with the windmill idea because I have now ordered it Hmm

We get quite a bit for the dd's but they don't get alot from relitives (grandparents only spend £5 ish on each child) and the rest of the family dont bother.

Dd2 is getting a drum kit which i got half price (£14),a strawberry shortcake playset (£35), A trumpet from ELC (£10) and a few small bits (pens, books, clothes).

Dd1 is getting a car garage (£10), hot wheels set(£12), moxie girls set (£14) and a lego set (£25) plus little bits (same as dd2).

I'm sure they will be happy with whatever they get, dd1 wrote a huge list yesterday but wont be getting most of the things she wanted, i think if you buy too much half of it wont even get looked at.

The windmill looks great, there were loads left when i went to sainsburys at the weekend.
