Wheelybugs - worth the money ?

We would like to buy DS (12 months) a ride on toy for Christmas. I can't help thinking the Wheelybugs look much nicer than the plastic type ones but are they worth the extra money ?

Any experiences welcome Smile

we have 2 and my girls love them :) BUT I got them half price last year in boots sale Grin

CarGirl · 29/10/2010 21:18

Yes def worth the money, although nearly new off ebay worth going for! Even my 8 year old still likes having a turn on one.

MaeMobley · 29/10/2010 21:18

Based on our experience I would say NO but I do agree that they look nicer than usual plastic tat.

DS got his for his first bday but neither DS nor subsequent DD were that fussed about it.

EddiesTeddy · 29/10/2010 21:19

Yes- they are expensive but extremely well made, My children have one each and have been used on a daily basis for the last year- worth every penny Smile

paddypoopants · 29/10/2010 21:21

I bought one for my ds for his 1st birthday but really he was too young for it (and he is a very energetic wee soul). He kept sliding off it. Now he's 2 it is really great, however he still prefers the cheapo plastic rideon his granny bought him last year in ASDA and he was able to use it much earlier.

Ours is very much played with. We bought it for DS and DD2 is playing with it now too.

Thanks all

Really sturdy and well made. But my son grew too big for his really quickly. And they don't go very well on carpets - great if you have laminate floors.

playftseforme · 30/10/2010 20:50

My soon to be 4 yr old is still playing w hers - bought for Xmas when she was 18mths

JarethTheGoblinKing · 30/10/2010 20:52

Yes, they're amazing, DS spent all his time on his from his 1st birthday to when he could walk, was his mode of transport for those 4 months Grin

It still lives under the table in the living room and DS (3) is very protective of it (we have the ladybird)

Ours went brilliantly on carpet (it's not a deep one though) on laminate it was VERY fast.

Word of warning - some kids just don't like them. See if you can try one out at John Lewis or the like and see if he likes it?

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 31/10/2010 07:33

Agree that they're worth the money if your DC like them. My DS has never been interested in his, but loves playing on any plastic ones elsewhere.

Mushroomflumps · 31/10/2010 07:37

Like others have said it seems to be a bit hit or miss whether your child likes it.

My ds was unfussed by his, but loved the little tikes mini cycle www.littletikes.co.uk/product.php?filterorder=C&search=&agemin=0&agemax=0&gender=&range=0&cat=5&itemid=115&returnurl=%2Fsearch.php%3Ffilterorder%3DC%26search%3D%26agemin%3D0%26agemax%3D0%26gender%3D%26range%3D0%26cat%3D5%26page%3D1

I bought one each on their first birthdays, a tiger and a mouse. I think they are great!

Sometimes have good offers on them at Kiddicare and at Funky Moose.

The3Bears · 31/10/2010 08:27

They are great a worth the money I had the small tiger one for ds then got him the bigger cow one for his 3rd birthday this year he loves them :)

Tinkerisdead · 31/10/2010 17:00

I got one for my DD for her 1st birthday and now she is 2 she's just started venturing on to it more and more. Her cousin who is 3 cannot keep off it though. She is rocket fast on it and spins round really quickly.

I also got mine cheap by shopping around a bit, we have the bee. From what i have seen they really come into their own once you get into toddlerhood though.

LunarSea · 02/11/2010 11:44

Wheelybugs up to 35% off at Amazon at the moment.

Stylelostinlabour · 03/11/2010 20:30

Have a look at the Scuttle bug as an alternative - I've had both and scuttle gets loads more use then the wheelie bug.

also if you dont have wooden floors the bug doesnt tend to move and they get frustrated.
