Stocking fillers - what does Santa put in your DC's stockings?

IamFartacus · 27/10/2010 14:30

I'm desperately looking for inspiration for Santa. He is on a budget this year, so wants stuff that's relatively cheap, but fills up a stocking. Any help much appreciated!

This is DS's first year with stocking too. Also will be about 2 and a half. Filling it is more fun than buying the big presents. So far he has-

Wind up turtle bath toy

His dad is going to add a couple of Takealong Thomas trains and other bits and bobs. I'm going to add a small bottle of bubbles.

Some great ideas here. We do a lot of them too - like toothbrush, chocolate coins / orange etc. I try to make sure that there's something nice for the Christmas morning shower too - shower gel, fancy shampoo, etc.

Can I also suggest a Santa eco-torch. About £6 and my son (who was 7 months last Christmas absolutely loves it!

Daughters (age 21 and 13) will also get a starbucks card.

BelligerentGhoul · 28/10/2010 22:57

Oh yes - we do Starbucks cards or goodies too (eg their gingerbread syrup).

TheNextMrsDracula · 28/10/2010 23:05

You can get loads of bits and bobs at the charity shop - great for Fairy Magic books and naff crystally ornaments which my dds adore.

Quoththeraven If you are planning for your DS's stocking to be on his bed for FC to fill may I humbly suggest a matching stocking that you have already filled to swop for the empty one. saves creeping in to get empty one then trying to fill it when you are tired and emotional had a drink and then sneaking back in to replace on bed.

MNTotoro · 29/10/2010 09:28

trumpton - my dds have always been scared of FC coming in their room so they leaves stockings outside the door Grin

taffetawitchescat · 29/10/2010 09:41

yy to stockings outside the door - Santa's always in a rush to get downstairs so he doesn't have time to go searching around dark rooms

trumpton · 29/10/2010 09:44

I shouldhave thought of that when mine were small......It does seem strange to me that we encourage them to think it's ok for a stranger to come into their room and leave them presents in the middle of the night. Grin

I remember a toddler group party when as FC entered with a ho! ho! ho! a little girl peed all over the floor in terror.

mummytime · 29/10/2010 10:05

Santa in our house always just pops down the chimney and leaves stockings by the fireplace. When we've been away he's left stockings byt patio doors.

If you want a nice full stocking we have used Pajamas (from Primark) as a nice bulker outer, or once swim towels in Florida.

Main presents in our family come from people and are under the tree. We have often had to wake the kids to do stockings, as Daddy used to play the organ at church on Christmas day (probably not this year as daughter is singing PM).
I think Christmas is one of the few occasions when I'm not too bothered about a bit of unhealthy eating. But we do stop them eating for a bit before dinner (Church is good for that).

cece · 29/10/2010 13:00

DH has just told me that he never had a stocking as a child. Sad

He used to get one present from his parents plus other from his aunts etc.

I find that a bit sad and that may also explain why he never makes me a stocking - despite me doing him one every year Sad

Sinkingfeeling · 29/10/2010 13:05

My sister and I didn't get stockings as children, but neither did any of our friends. I think it just wasn't part of the Christmas tradition where we lived. We both loving doing them for our own children though. :)

FairyArmadillo · 30/10/2010 09:32

No, I never got a stocking either! But my parents loved me and got me lovely presents. I'm from another country and they didn't grow up with stockings, so didn't know to give me one. I'm doing one for my 2 year old. It's fun finding these wee things.

We're trying to avoid sweets this year as they get plenty from family, school events etc. I found www.tickseed.co.uk to have some great relatively cheap (price wise !) and different stuff. Great little stocking fillers and craft items under £1 and some small science kits for nephews.

There's always Hawkin and stockingfillers.co.uk (same company) but some of their stuff is so overpriced. Asda have cheap stationary.
