Want to buy my daughters pandora braclets for Christmas. I think they both need different sizes and i also wondered if i need to buy the divider things or just put the beads/charms on?
Any advice anyone could give me would be lovely, thank you!

Hi oksonowhat, if you are still thinking of these charm bracelets, I would suggest a thomas sabo bracelet like another poster said . I got my young sister one as a gift for her prom in july she's 16 . All her friends love this bracelet and it so much cheaper than pandora. There's obviously different starting prices of the bracelets but I was stuck between a pearl bracelet which fit upto 3 charms on , they did this in pink pearl too and another colour I think or there was a silver bracelet and you could fit quite a few on this. They were both £25 . Fancy packaging . There's so much choice of charms and you get a brochure with them all in. The charms start at £15.95 . I got the pearl one with 2 charms symbolising her prom etc and it came to about £55 . If your daughters are 16/17 age I think these are more fashionable than pandora for that age range. Pandora I think are more for women in 20s. I know they cost a lot these charm bracelets but they are stunning and as a special gift I think its okay x

I have a pandora-a-like watch that my DH bought me for my birthday. It's an accurist watch that can take pandora charms, or the cheaper ones. Most of my charms are 'Charmilla' and you can get them from H Samuel.

I like my watch, and wear it happily but I think I would have been annoyed if he had got the more expensive Pandora version.

DD (16) got a Pandora bracelet with one charm for Christmas last year, she got another two for her birthday and one after exams. I don't think I've seen her with it off ever since then! Smile

LionessLady · 22/11/2010 18:53

(More charms that it, not bracelets!)

nancydrewrocked · 22/11/2010 18:56

Cheap (in appearance) and unimaginative in the extreme. Don't do it!

newpup · 22/11/2010 19:45

DD1 has a lovelinks charm bracelet. We gave it to her last Christmas with 2 beads and a charm. We added another charm for her birthday this year and sil gave her one as well. I prefer Lovelinks to Pandora.

Mil also gave her a Thomas Sabo bracelet for her birthday and added a charm with money for charm of her choice. I know she has bought her another charm for Christmas this year. She has started a trend amongst her friends!

She loves both of them and can carry on collecting and changing the beads.

I love my Pandora bracelet. Each bead has been a gift and reminds me of a person or occasion. I think they are less cumbersome than traditional charm bracelets as they don't have lots of bits hanging down to get caught on clothing.
You get Troll beads and Truth bracelets too which are extremely similar but not as expensive.

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 05/12/2010 23:30

I love mine, have only 2 charms (special to me) and I think it looks lovely. Stays on (unlike any other bracelet I've ever owned).

TheNextMrsClaus · 05/12/2010 23:31

I can see the "magpie" appeal - all the girls in my family have always had solid gold charm bracelets - I've had mine since I was born, and every charm means something. I have a few charms from my late grandmother's bracelet and others I was given as christening/birthday presents. It is worth a few thousand now, as it is so heavy! It is totally unique.

I guess Pandora is the modern equivalent, but there are so many cheapo imitations you have to be careful. But, as someone already mentioned, with teens the brand is everything. I wonder if they'll still be collecting charms in 20 year's time?

toody · 05/12/2010 23:35

I have had my pandora bracelet 2yrs never take it off husband and daughter buy me charms for birthday, christmas so each one means something I haven't got dividers still looks lovely

oksonowwhat · 06/12/2010 09:21

My friend has a bracelet and she has those things that stop the charms sliding around.....can't remember what they're called!! Do you think they are necessary??

OP posts:
Dexterrocks · 06/12/2010 12:56

I know the things you mean - I think they are called clips. I didn't have them to begin with but they do stop the beads sliding to the end where they could wind themselves off the bracelet. I did find they made the bracelet easier to wear but didn't need them ie they weren't essential.

oksonowwhat · 18/12/2010 00:30

Thank you. I won't buy them for christmas then i'll see how they get on with the bracelets first.

I really don't like them, and think they're just a way of getting people to buy more and more overpriced Pandora charms, but if you like them, try looking for artisan-produced glass beads rather than the stuff Pandora sells. Look on Etsy for beautiful, hand-lamp worked beads. Search under pandora beads. Smile

Sirzy · 19/12/2010 11:24

I got a pandora bracelet last year and have worn it every day. It is very rare for me to have a peice of jewellery I do that with.

All of my charms mean something to me and were presents from people. All are proper pandora ones though (we have a great shop locally)

I don't have any of the dividers, never seen the need to get them.

missmoopy · 19/12/2010 11:30

How old are your dd's? If they are young then I personally feel Pandora is a little expensive. Argos do a nice cheaper alternative. I know people think Argos is chavvy but to be honest in these financial doldrums should we be snobby about it?

missmoopy · 19/12/2010 11:32

Plus there are so many other lovely silver braceletes out there to choose from. Pandora bracelets are like arses - everyones got one! Xmas Grin

oksonowwhat · 05/01/2011 22:51

I have to say that my daughters love their bracelets. Yes, maybe they are abit common and def overpriced!!! I bought the bracelet each and three charms each. They got money for christmas which they are going to use for at least one more charm each.

Im pleased i got them as they wear them all the time. Thank you everyone for your help and in putSmile

1 - old thread
2 - you have to pay to advertise

rhondajean · 15/10/2011 18:47

Just to throw something else in, have you seen the Nomination bracelets?

They are Italian charms, the bracelets are steel and very inexpensive, there are massive amounts of styles of beautiful charms that you can get to personalise them, and you can even get custom ones made online cheaply (though obviously they arent Nomination, just compatible ones).

DD1 and I both have one and love them. Ive just bought her a Pandora leather with a couple of charms from Brandalley as well, for xmas, she hasnt actually ever asked for one but it was nice, I dont like the silver ones either tbh. Brandalley might have another sale, I think they were 30 per cent off, you might want to keep looking on there?

For smaller children, Jo for Girls does lovely and smaller and cheaper bracelets and charms, DD2 has one of those, I wouldnt pay for Pandora at 6 or 7 because it might get lost. Chamilia also does a kids range, its slightly pricier but some lovely charms.
